The Fortnite 30.40 update is the last major patch of Chapter 5 Season 3, before all attention turns to the new season.

Chapter 5 Season 4 is all but confirmed to be a Marvel-themed season, headlined by Doctor Doom and coming just after the Deadpool & Wolverine collaboration. This update also added some new features to other experiences and the files for the end-of-season event.

Here are the full patch notes of everything included in the Fortnite 30.40 update.

Fortnite 30.40 update release date & downtime

Fortnite v30.40 was released on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, as confirmed by the devs in an X post.

The downtime began at around 1 AM PT / 4 AM ET /  9 AM BST and lasted around two hours, during which the game servers were unavailable.

LEGO mode gets Battle Bus, sleep, and more in v30.40

The main highlight of this update is the Battle Bus, which will act as the long-awaited fast travel system that fans have been calling for. This will let players quickly navigate their islands without having to run between bases manually.

LEGO mode also gets the option to sleep until morning, a common feature in survival games that has been missing since launch. This will allow you to skip the nighttime, which is considerably more challenging than trying to scavenge and build during the day due to the increased number of enemies.

The devs also promised “new Toys,” which likely open up even more options when building structures, but it hasn’t been confirmed what these will be.

End-of-season event timer

A timer of the end-of-season event is currently live in the game, and you’ll be able to spot it above Megalo Don’s ship at Brutal Beachhead.

According to this timer, the end-of-season event is scheduled to begin on August 10 at 2 PM ET. Although not much is known about the event, Megalo Don plans to destroy the island with his ship after powering it up with Nitro.

The Wanderer may have a role to play in this instance too, but how he’ll be involved remains to be seen at this point in time.

Minigun returns

Epic Games has also unvaulted the fan-favorite Minigun. This weapon is available in multiple rarities and can be found scattered across the island, commonly occurring as floor loot and inside chests.

Fortnite x Fall Guys Battle Royale minigame

The Fall Guys gameplay event is finally live in Fortnite after the 30.40 patch. As a part of this in-game event, you will be able to compete against your enemies on a Fall Guys-themed track, where the winner gets access to Epic and Legendary rarity loot.

You’ll be able to access the circuits by interacting with the plethora of bean idols that have been scattered over the map. This is a limited-time event, so it will probably be vaulted once this season ends.

There’s plenty more to come in Fortnite, as Chapter 5 Season 4 is set to begin on August 16 following the leaked live event. The new season will introduce a brand-new Battle Pass, as well as a host of map changes.
