After Kevin the Cube was teased in Fortnite’s Ariana Grande concert, Donald Mustard, Chief Creative Officer at Epic Games, has further teased its return in Season 8.

Kevin the Cube was the source of much speculation and theory-crafting back in August 2019 during Season 5 of Fortnite Chapter 1. This large, purple cube arrived outside of Paradise Palms and made its way all around the map until dissolving in Loot Lake, turning the water purple and bouncy.

The Cube reappeared and caused the Zombie invasion, and then arrived once again in Season X, but Kevin hasn’t been seen since the game moved to Chapter 2, and a brand-new island. Now, both Fortnite boss Donald Mustard and the Ariana Grande concert have strongly hinted at its return in Season 8.

Ever since Fortnite moved to Chapter 2 in October 2019, players have been awaiting the return of Kevin the Cube. But now, two years later, it’s become increasingly likely that we’ll see the Cube return in Season 8, which is expected to begin on September 13.

The first tease was in the Ariana Grande Rift Tour event, where events from previous seasons were shown through portals. However, Kevin the Cube could be seen on the Chapter 2 island, which led to theories that this was actually an image from the future and the Cube is on its way.

These theories appear to carry some weight after Donald Mustard, Chief Creative Officer at Epic Games, gave a further tease for the Cube’s return.

On August 7, Mustard tweeted: “They see me rollin’ pt 2.” Many believe it’s no coincidence that the dev tweeted the lyrics to Chamillionaire’s ‘Ridin’’ only a day after the Cube was initially teased.

With how Kevin the Cube rolled around the Chapter 1 island, many players, including notable leakers such as HYPEX, believe this is a direct reference to the Cube. With the alien invasion set to wrap up and Glyph Master Raz’s disappearance needing to be explained, there’s every chance Kevin the Cube will either kick-off or conclude Fortnite Season 8.
