Fortnite players claim Battle Pass-only collab skins are a “crime”
Epic GamesFortnite has brought many crossovers over the years but players have slammed the decision to include popular characters in Battle Passes, calling it a “mistake.”
Fortnite is well known for its crossovers at this point, as almost every update brings a new familiar face to the island. In Chapter 5 alone, Family Guy’s Peter Griffin, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and even The Weeknd have arrived.
Many of these collaboration skins are available from the in-game store, and sporadically after their initial run. However, others are part of the Battle Pass in their respective seasons and cannot be earned any other way.
This means that skins included in the Fortnite Battle Pass are gone for good once the season ends, giving players who missed out no way of getting them.
In response to this, X (formerly Twitter) user ‘OwnerOfVishanti’ began a thread of all the popular characters that fans can no longer unlock. There were a number of high-profile characters, including the likes of Lara Croft, Deadpool, Dr Strange, The Mandalorian, Geralt of Rivia, and many more.
There were also plenty of skins mentioned that were only unlockable through limited-time challenges in Fortnite, such as Aquaman and Darth Maul.
Plenty of others responded to the thread, with many agreeing that locking certain popular characters behind a limited-time Battle Pass or challenges hurts players in the long term.
“Collab skins stuck behind a BP is a crime,” said one reply, before well-known leaker Shiina added: “Battle Passes were a mistake.”
Meanwhile, some felt that including the skins in the seasonal Battle Passes wouldn’t be all bad, as long as they returned to the store at a later date.
“Even as someone that has all of the skins mentioned, there should be a year delay then people can buy them at full price,” said another fan. “Sometimes I have to complete seasons I’m not interested [in] purely for a skin I know I’ll never get the chance of owning again like Darth Vader.”
Only time will tell if Epic Games decides to change their approach to crossovers in future seasons. Chapter 5 Season 2 is the next major update on the cards, so we’ll have to wait and see if any iconic characters appear in the Battle Pass.
