Fortnite Season 6 weapon crafting guide: Recipes & upgrades

One of the biggest additions to Fortnite Season 6 is the introduction of weapon crafting, a system that allows players to build their own guns and items using materials found across the island.

The Season 6 v16.00 Fortnite update has shaken up the game in a major way, with plenty of map changes, and lots of new skins for players to enjoy in the new Battle Pass.

One of the most surprising changes comes in the form of weapon crafting, a brand-new system that lets players gather materials from across the Fortnite island to build Primal weapons and tools to use against their enemies.

The weapon crafting system is surprisingly deep, and the game itself won’t give you much help in terms of teaching you how to craft. If you’re struggling, we’ve got everything you need to get yourself some cool new gear.

How to craft weapons & items in Fortnite Season 6

Fortnite’s system to craft weapons is fairly straightforward, however, knowing what you actually need to make things is less clear. Once you have gathered some materials, you can press the ‘Alt key’ on your keyboard or ‘Up’ on a controller, which will open the new look Inventory & Crafting screen.

Tab over to ‘Crafting’ with a weapon selected, and you’ll see what you can craft with the weapons currently in your inventory. You won’t be able to build a gun out of nothing, so you’ll need a weapon in your inventory you want to use as a base.

  1. Open your Inventory using the Alt key on keyboard or Up on a controller d-pad.
  2. Move to the Crafting tab using E on keyboard, or R1 / RB on controller.
  3. Select which weapon you would like to use to craft a Primal Weapon or upgrade.
  4. Check the material requirements need to perform the craft.
  5. If you have them, craft the weapon using the ‘Craft’ button.

How to get Animal Bones to craft Primal Weapons in Fortnite Season 6

The best thing about Primal weapons is that they suit each category and playstyle. Close-ranged players can use the Primal Shotgun, while long-ranged ones will use the Primal Rifle.

Here’s every available Primal weapon in Fortnite Season 6:

  • Primal Flame Bow
  • Primal Pistol
  • Primal Rifle
  • Primal Shotgun
  • Primal SMG
  • Primal Stink Bow

These are capable of dealing more damage than Mechanical weapons, and you can create them by going out hunting to collect four Animal Bones.

Wildlife was added to the game in the Fortnite Season 6 update, so you’ll need hunt either a wolf, a hog, or a boar, and kill them to get their meat and bones. Once you have the bones in your inventory, you’ll be able to craft Primal Weapons.

How to get Mechanical Parts to upgrade weapons in Fortnite Season 6

Getting Mechanical Parts may sound complicated, but it’s actually fairly simple. All you need to do is find one of the many cars and vehicles scattered across the island, and destroy it with your pickaxe.

Every now and then a Mechanical Part will fall out while you’re swinging, but make sure not to stay too close, as the vehicles will explode when you’ve dealt enough damage.
