How much money has Fortnite made?
Since launching in 2017, Fortnite has gone on to become a money-making machine, just how much has the battle royale game made in the years since it hit the market?
Lots of people don’t realize that Fortnite wasn’t always a battle royale game, it was a PvE experience with battle royale only coming later as an afterthought.
5 years later, Fortnite continues to throw its name into the hat when it comes to being the gaming industry’s most influential, popular, and successful BR game available.
Now into Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1, the game shows no signs of stopping, and Epic’s shooter continues to move from one high-profile crossover to the next. With all that said, many people want to know, how much money has Fortnite made since 2017.
Fortnite money made between 2017-2021
Using a variety of different sources, including Statista and businessofapps, we estimate that Fortnite has made around $20-25 billion since it entered the gaming market in 2017.
Looking at the game’s earnings chronologically, it’s reported that Fortnite made roughly $5.4 billion in 2018, capping off a successful first year, and dropped slightly in 2019 with a total of $3.7 billion – representing over $9 billion since Fortnite had begun.
Erin Griffith, a reporter for New York Times, tweeted a comment in 2021 from Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney that stated Fortnite had made: “$5.1 billion in gross revenue in 2020.“
As we move into 2021, businessofapps estimates, using Epic itself as the source, that the game’s popularity was doing anything but waning and reached a game-high of $5.8 billion.
How much money has Fortnite made in 2022?
If we combine the game’s approximate yearly totals to date, this totals exactly $20 billion. A simple extrapolation of data suggests that Fortnite averages $5 billion a year, which is what the game has likely made in 2022.
With regards to our overall estimation, adding an extra $5 billion to $20 billion would put us in that ballpark of $20-25 billion.
Obviously, an Epic Games earnings call during 2023 might give us more accurate figures, so we’ll have to wait until then for more concrete numbers.
Hopefully, that covers everything you needed to know about Fortnite and how much money it’s made during its lifetime so far
