Combat Cache in Fortnite

Combat Caches are still around in Fortnite Chapter 5 and a Week 11 Quest tasks players with assisting in recovering two of them. Here’s what a Combat Cache is in Fortnite, as well as how to find one around the map.

After their introduction back in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2, Combat Caches are still an important element in battle royale matches. While it’s risky to open them because the process can attract unwanted attention, their contents can easily turn the tide of a match, rewarding players with weapons and ammo.

In Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1, players got a new Weekly Quest that requires them to assist in opening Combat Caches. To help you with this mission, here’s everything you need to know about the Combat Cache in Fortnite.

What is a Fortnite Combat Cache?

A Combat Cache allows you to collect high-tier loot during a Fortnite match, including powerful weapons. If you recover a Combat Cache before your opponents, you’ll be able to get an advantage over them.

These work similarly to the Supply Drops, which grant players weapons and items mid-game. Since Supply Drops were vaulted again at the start of Chapter 5, the Combat Cache is now your new source of weapons and gear.

Where to find Combat Caches in Fortnite

Combat Caches drop in random spots on the map after the third Storm Circle is revealed. You’ll be informed of this by a large beam of light as well as a marker appearing on the map and your screen with the image of a Combat Cache.

Here’s how to collect an item from a Combat Cache in Fortnite:

  1. Hop into a Fortnite match.
  2. Wait until the Combat Cache marker appears.
  3. Head towards the Combat Cache location.
  4. Approach the Combat Cache and press the Interact button.
  5. Wait 50 seconds for the Combat Cache to open.
  6. Collect the loot that falls out of the Combat Cache.

Since you’ll have to wait 50 seconds for the Combat Cache to open, we recommend stocking up on weapons and healing items before you visit it, so you’re prepared for enemy attacks. You don’t need to wait 50 seconds right next to the combat cache. You can take cover while waiting, but keep in mind that anyone could approach it and claim the items once the Cache is open.

Players should hurry to the Combat Cache as soon as it spawns on the map, as the value of the loot will decrease as time passes. This will be showcased by the color of the beam of light changing.

To complete the Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 Weekly Quest, you’ll need to assist in opening Combat Caches. Once this is done, you’ll be awarded 30,000 XP for your efforts.
