You can customize Proximity Chat settings on your creator-made islands.

According to the official blog post, you can “control the full volume range and the distance over which the volume gradually drops to zero.”

Additionally, “when proximity chat is enabled on your island, a mandatory HUD element is displayed that shows players who are actively speaking.” You can report, mute, and block players and Epic will moderate proximity chat reports to address any violation of their Community Rules.

What is proximity chat?

Proximity chat is a feature that lets you hear nearby players, adding to the immersion of the game and allowing you to listen to teammates and opponents close to you.

According to Epic Games, the feature “is currently available as Early Access,” which means it’s still under active development. They also added they’ll be “reviewing your feedback and improving the feature for the final release in the coming months.”

Does Fortnite Battle Royale have proximity chat?

No, Fortnite Battle Royale doesn’t feature proximity chat. Considering the nature of the game mode, it’s unlikely the feature will make its way into Battle Royale and Zero Build, but we’ll let you know if the devs implement it in future updates.

For now, proximity chat is only available for Creative Islands.

The Fall Guys crossover added many new elements to use on your Creative Islands, so make sure you check how to play the obstacle course, as well as everything we know about Fortnite’s upcoming season.
