Best Sons of the Forest base locations for early, mid & endgame
Endnight GamesThe map in Sons of the Forest is truly massive following the 1.0 update and building a base is compulsory if you want to progress smoothly. Here are the best base locations in Sons of the Forest, including some great options such as beaches, mountains, caves, and more.
Sons of the Forest has a large and diverse map featuring a jungle, mountains, caves, beaches, and more. Although your party’s goal is to find the billionaire, survival is a must in this truly horrifying jungle filled with mutants and other threats.
One of the first things you’ll have to do in Sons of the Forest is collect resources and build a base. The location of your base is key and you must consider factors like resource availability and mutant threat before finalizing a place.
On that note, here are the best base locations in Sons of the Forest.
Best Sons of the Forest base locations for early game
Northern beach
The Northern beach is one of the places where you can begin your journey from in Sons of the Forest and building your base at the beach itself is brilliant for the early game.
On the eastern end of the beach, you’ll find an Abandoned Camp that contains valuable resources and towards the western end, there’s a cave containing a Keycard and a Rebreather that helps you get the shovel, a Stun Gun, an Artifact Piece, and a lot more.
The closest enemy camp is in the jungle making the overall base location very safe.
Golf Course
If you want your Sons of the Forest base to be in a vast grassland, we recommend heading to the golf course in the northeastern region of the map. Start building around the small pond so you have a water source and near the Maintenance Bunker C, you’ll also find a revolver that shreds mutants.
There are hardly any cannibal camps nearby, so you also don’t need to worry about safety as well, which is a major concern during the early game.
Western edge of the map
On the western edge of the Sons of the Forest map, you’ll find an open area with three graves and it is ideal for building a base. Just head northwest of the river spawn point and you can start building near one of the many abandoned camps.
Another thing that makes this base location great is its proximity to the beach. You’ll be safe from cannibals and there are plenty of trees that can be turned to logs.
Best Sons of the Forest base locations for mid-game
Southeastern islands
There are two islands on the southeastern edge of the Sons of the Forest map. Both islands have lakes in between and you can build a massive base around them. One of the islands has a cannibal camp, so make sure to be in a relatively safe region.
What makes this base location stand out is the peace and calmness almost absent from the rest of the map. You won’t find a lot of resources apart from turtles and there aren’t any caves nearby, which is why we only recommend this for the mid-game where you already have all the vital resources and can afford a quiet location.
Helicopter crash site lake
The massive lake that resembles Squidward from Spongebob makes for one of the best base locations in Sons of the Forest. The cave located north of the lake has plenty of resources and the Residential Bunker is another noteworthy POI nearby.
You can choose to build a base north of the lake for resources, and for better safety, you can pick the island in the lake. However, the latter will also require the construction of bridges for AI companions like Kelvin.
Eastern beach
All the beaches in Sons of the Forest are great base locations. While the northern beach is accessible for beginners, you can head to the east for a better stop during the mid-game. There’s a cave at the northern end of the beach where you can find an Artifact Piece too.
Head west from the beach to find a village and a lake which are perfect for resource farming. Interestingly, you’ll also find the Luxury Bunker nearby where the story finally ends.

Mountain lake
Once you have access to zip lines, don’t refrain from building a base in the snowy mountain region of Sons of the Forest. If you want to test yourself, head to the lake near the ice cave and the abandoned village.
Near the lake, find a spot with fish and water and collect all the desired building resources beforehand because they are hard to find in the mountains.
In winter, build on the lake itself, and the structures won’t melt when the ice freezes during summer. Also, cannibals can’t swim, meaning you can live without any fear here.
Bunker bases
The seven bunkers in Sons of the Forest not only contain the best loot items like the 3D Printer, Firefighter Axe, Shotgun Rail, and Katana but also help you progress in the story. Their entrance is marked with a green and white circle on the GPS tool and you’ll be amazed by the space in these underground hideouts.
We’ve marked all seven bunker bases in Sons of the Forest in the image above. Towards the endgame, you can make a base near the Luxury Bunker, which is the easternmost bunker near the beach.
Waterfall south of Maintenance Bunker A – Best Sons of the Forest base location
The final spot on our list belongs to the lake and the waterfall located south of the Maintenance Bunker A. This is arguably the best base in the game once you’re done with collecting all the necessary resources and just need a spot to retreat.
As it turns out, the lake doesn’t freeze during winter, implying you have clean water for the entire year. Wildlife is also abundant in the region, and on top of that, the waterfall and rocks protect the base from cannibal attacks.
You can find a 3D printer close to the river and the nearby camp is optimal for stacking up on essentials like medicines and energy drinks. With ziplines, you’ll also rarely face any transportation issues.
