Biggest AAA games coming in 2024 – Black Myth: Wukong, Star Wars Outlaws, more
UbisoftFollowing some massive releases last year, 2024 has kept up the momentum with plenty of major AAA launches like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Hellblade 2. Luckily, there’s plenty still to come throughout the rest of the year, from brand-new IPs to returning franchises.
Here’s a look at all of the biggest AAA games coming in 2024 across all platforms.
Black Myth: Wukong (August 20)
Since its first reveal back in 2020, Black Myth: Wukong has been one of the most talked-about games in development. Finally, in August 2024, players will get their hands on this ambitious action RPG exploring ancient Chinese mythology.
You will step into the shoes of the Destined One, a being capable of transforming into deadly creatures with useful abilities, including flight. Black Myth: Wukong is still steeped in mystery, but there isn’t too much longer to wait before we discover what Game Science have in store.
Concord (August 23)
Concord is a 5v5 FPS where players can use characters with unique abilities, weapons, and powers to defeat the enemy team. It had its Beta test period in early July and officially launches on August 23, 2024.
The title will have 16 playable characters known as the Freegunners, who are mercenaries tasked with taking high-risk jobs across the galaxy. Each week will reveal a new cutscene that progresses the story, which will also evolve with new content.
World of Warcraft: The War Within (August 26)
World of Warcraft is releasing its 10th expansion, The War Within, on August 26, 2024. Players will get the opportunity to discover a new realm called Khaz Algar, located far west of Pandaria, and you’ll meet Xal’atath, the Harbinger of the Void and leader of the Nerubian forces threatening Azeroth.
The expansion is the first of a new trilogy coming to World of Warcraft known as the Worldsoul Saga. You’ll be able to explore new regions, eight new dungeons, and the new Nerub’ar Palace Raid. The biggest addition, though, is the new Earthen Allied race.
Star Wars Outlaws (August 30)
Star Wars Outlaws is the latest title to flesh out George Lucas’ beloved sci-fi universe, following in the footsteps of the Jedi series. Developed by the team behind The Division, this new IP takes Ubisoft’s tried-and-tested open-world formula and applies it to iconic locations from the franchise.
Playing as criminal Kay Vess between the events of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, fans will visit Tatooine, Akiva, and plenty of new planets as they attempt to pull off a major heist, all while avoiding the clutches of The Empire.
Silent Hill 2 (October 8)
Silent Hill fans have had to be patient in recent years, so while you wait for the next mainline game, Konami are releasing a remake of Silent Hill 2. It’s set to tell them the same haunting story of the 2001 original, as James Sunderland heads to the titular town in search of his wife.
However, the remake swaps the tank controls for a more modern third-person perspective, looking to fully immerse you in each horrifying encounter. The combat is also getting an overhaul, taking influence from other brutal titles like The Last of Us.
Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred (October 8)
The long-awaited Diablo 4 DLC Vessel of Hatred is set to arrive on October 8, 2024, and it’s bringing a ton of new content alongside a brand new region and class for players to learn. The story kicks off at the same point where the main campaign ended.
Diablo 4 fans will also be able to look forward to a brand new Raid, mercenaries to help you in combat, and pets to help you collect materials. Pets were released early for those who preorder the DLC. Vessel of Hatred is the first big expansion for Diablo 4, so expectations are high and fans are excited.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (October 25)
Another year means another Call of Duty, and 2024’s entry in the long-running is Treyarch’s Black Ops 6. Following on from the events of Cold War, the game’s story is another spy thriller, which sees the likes of Woods and Adler going rogue after the CIA is infiltrated by a mole.
As always, the game also brings a new multiplayer for fans to tackle, complete with new weapons and maps, as well as returning features like Theatre mode and the classic Prestige system. In many ways, BO6 is a return to the series’ roots, and October can’t come quickly enough.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows (November 15)
One year on from Mirage, Ubisoft’s flagship series is back with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This time around the franchise takes us back to 16th-century Japan, where the story is told from the perspective of the shinobi Naoe, and African samurai Yasuke.
The sequel incorporates all of the elements that fans have come to expect, from stealthy takedowns and parkour to deep RPG systems. But, thanks to the new setting, you can also expect more elegant sword fights and a colorful map to explore.
Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl (November 20)
Stalker 2 was meant to be released in September initially, but the devs decided to move the date to iron out some bugs, so now it’ll launch on November 20, 2024. The story is set in the Exclusion Zone, which was set up following the Chernobyl disaster in 2006.
It’s an open-world FPS game where players will have to manage their hunger, inventory, and weapons in order to survive the perilous world. Playing as character Skif who is tasked with searching for lucrative artifacts in the Zone, the game’s mystery can only be discovered the further into danger you go.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard (TBC)
Dragon Age fans got a treat at the Xbox Showcase this year when Veilguard was officially announced, and reports are saying it’s set to release sometime in Fall 2024. The game is a new standalone story, even though some familiar faces are back, and it will be mission-based instead of open-world.
Like previous Dragon Age games, though, players will have the chance to form connections with seven new companions who can join you on your adventure. Companions will have questlines, and your decisions will influence their relationship with you – so choose wisely.
Starfield: Shattered Space (TBC)
The new DLC for Starfield, Shattered Space, has no official release date yet, but Todd Howard confirmed it would arrive later in 2024 during an episode of Kinda Funny Gamescast. The new expansion will offer an in-depth look at House Va’ruun, a fanatical cult that worships the ‘Great Serpent.’
The story kicks off after you receive a distress signal originating from a derelict star station. This eventually leads you to House Va’ruun’s homeworld, where you’ll be able to explore the city of Dazra. It’s up to you to solve the mystery of this place, but you can also look forward to new weapons, spacesuits, and gear to help you through it.
Avowed (TBC)
Avowed is the latest highly-anticipated release from Obsidian, and it’s set to come out later in 2024. Just after the Xbox Games Showcase, though, a tweet revealing that the date may be November 12 got quickly deleted – implying it may be coming sooner than we think.
The game takes place in the mysterious world of Eora, which was first introduced in Pillars of Eternity. You’re tasked with finding out what’s behind the spread of a soul plague known as the Dream Scourge, but thankfully you’ll have companions in a large open-world setting to help you do so.
Marvel Rivals (TBC)
Marvel Rivals is a new live-service arena FPS that takes a lot of inspiration from Overwatch 2, but it doesn’t have an official release date yet beyond later in 2024. The game has had an Alpha and Beta test where players can try it out, but devs have not revealed if more tests will come before full release.
You can play as a range of different heroes from the Marvel Universe, each with a unique set of abilities to beat the enemy team in a 6v6 format. Currently, there are 23 to choose from, but more have been added since the game’s announcement, so we could see more added to the roster before it’s released.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (TBC)
It’s been many years since Indy fans had a top-tier video game not built in Lego, but that could all change in 2024. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is in the works at Bethesda, helmed by the same team that brought you modern Wolfenstein games like The New Order and The New Colossus.
This original story follows everyone’s favorite archeologist between the original movie and the Last Crusade, as he embarks on a globe-hopping adventure in pursuit of a stolen artifact. The titular character will use the likeness of actor Harrison Ford but will be voiced by none other than Troy Baker.
We’ll be updating this list throughout the year with any new titles that are announced, so be sure to check back here for the latest upcoming projects. There’s still plenty to come in 2025 and beyond, with the likes of Grand Theft Auto 6, Gears of War: E-Day, and Wolverine all announced and in active development.
