Elden Ring Rune farming: Best locations & methods
FromSoftwareRune farming can be critical for Elden Ring as almost every activity, from leveling up to upgrading weapons, requires Runes. So here are the best Rune farming locations in Elden Ring.
Elden Ring has some great Rune-farming opportunities throughout The Lands Between and the underground areas as players can earn a boatload of them with some dedication. As your weapons and upgrades would require a bunch of Runes, we recommend using these methods for a constant influx.
On that note, here are the best Rune farming locations and methods in Elden Ring.

Best location for farming Runes in Elden Ring – Moghwyn Palace
By far, the best Rune farm in Elden Ring lies in the Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace. This area is located in the Moghwyn Palace which is kind of a mid-game region and will require you to follow White Mask Varre’s questline in the game.
Once you make your way into the Moghwyn Dynasty Mausoleum, you can keep moving ahead until you reach the first Site of Grace in the area. Keep in mind that you are most likely heavily under-leveled the first time you reach this area so we would recommend not trying to engage any enemies.
From the first Site of Grace, keep heading east through a forest and then into an area full of blood along a canyon in the south. Now all you have to do is make your way uphill, past a bunch of Albinaurics, and activate the Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace in Elden Ring.
Once you are standing at the edge of the hill, you should be able to notice a large bird walking at a distance along the edge of a cliff up north. Simply shoot it with your bow and it should fall down the hill, killing itself, gifting you around 11000 Runes.
Now go back to the Albinaurics and kill them all, and each of them should be giving you 2000 Runes. However, be wary as they might be too strong for you if you are under-leveled. In total, you should be getting well above 50K Runes from each run.
Other locations for farming Runes in Elden Ring
If the Moghwyn Palace farm is still too much for you in Elden Ring, you can try out these farming methods until you are strong enough to deal with it:
- A walk through Caelid: Caelid might be one of the least-likable areas in Elden Ring, and is always plagued by a bunch of enemies at all locations. However, you can use this to your advantage and simply take a stroll through Dragonbarrow or the Swamp of Aoenia and kill everything that comes at you.
- Castle Redmane: Castle Redmane has a bunch of knights and dogs fighting it out among themselves, granting you free Runes. You can also clear out the other enemies roaming around the castle gaining a fair bit of Runes along the way.
- Knights in Royal Capital: Leyndell is filled with Knights that grant thousands of Runes each, and should be enough if you are on a killing spree in Elden Ring.
Best ways to gain more Runes in Elden Ring
Although Rune farming is always welcome in Elden Ring, you should always aim to optimize your returns by using certain items that can significantly improve your Rune gain.
- Golden Scarab: By far the best way of maximizing Runes in Elden Ring, the Golden Scarab boosts your Rune acquisition by a whopping 20%.
- Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot: A rare consumable that can also be crafted, the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot will increase your Rune acquisition by 30% for 3 minutes.
- Loot skulls and graves (really): You can come across several grave sites in Elden Ring, and more often than not they will contain some great Golden Runes, even the glowing skulls you find on the floor have them.
