Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree map size compared to Limgrave

Wondering how big the map for Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is? Luckily, the game’s director shared some telling details about the DLC’s size.

Elden Ring fans can’t wait to get their hands on the game’s first DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. The reveal trailer gave players a glimpse into what you can expect in the DLC, from bosses to new weapons.

On top of that, arguably the largest aspect of the new Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is the map, which we got to see parts of in the gameplay trailer.

This left many questions for players, as the gameplay and price suggested that the Shadow of the Erdtree’s map would be huge. The game’s director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has since cleared this up, offering details on what the map size will look like for the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

How big is the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree map?

According to IGN’s exclusive interview with Hidetaka Miyazaki, game director at FromSoftware, Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC map is “probably comparable, if not larger, than the area of Limgrave,” the base game’s first area. The director called the new area “the Land of Shadow.”

Miyazaki went on to disclose that Shadow of the Erdtree is a “brand new map separate from the Lands Between,” and so players will need to “warp” in order to get there. That said, at the same time, the new map for the DLC “technically occupies the same space as the Lands Between,” however, something story-related that has not yet been revealed has caused it to become disconnected.

It sounds like the new land in Shadow of the Erdtree has a bit of a Stranger Things-style Upside Down alternate reality going on, with a completely separate version of the same land.

Limgrave is a pretty huge area in the game, and it’s the first area players set their eyes on after escaping the Stranded Graveyard, where players are thrown after dying to the first boss.

It’s an area that players will have spent a lot of time in, as there are many locations to discover and bosses to overcome in order to get your level up, so many will be familiar with its size.
