Is there a Gears of War: E-Day release date
There is currently no release date for Gears of War: E-Day. The Coalition haven’t provided a release window for the title either, which probably means that it’s targeting a date after 2025.
Gears of War: E-Day platforms
Gears of War: E-Day will be released on Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will also be available via Game Pass on both platforms.
Gears of War: E-Day story & setting
Gear of War: E-Day is set 14 years before the events of the first game. The game tells the story of Emergence Day, which was the first time the menacing Locust emerged on Sera. They launched coordinated attacks on the human population using Emergence holes, resulting in unprecedented casualties.
GOW: E-Day aims to capture the horror of the titular day, as an unequipped world defends itself from a terrifying enemy. Emergence Day is also the first time the series’ protagonist, Marcus Fenix, comes across the Locust horde. While fans are accustomed to seeing the character as a seasoned veteran, they’ll see a different side to Fenix in E-Day as he comes to terms with fighting a nightmarish enemy.
Being a prequel, the title will see the return of Dominic Santiago. The fan-favorite character had a tragic arc in the main trilogy, over the course of which he formed an unbreakable bond with Fenix. E-Day will showcase the beginning of their brotherhood, long before the formation of Delta Squad.
The prequel will also provide origin stories to other elements of the franchise, an example being the Chainsaw Lancer. The weapon is synonymous with Gears but as seen in E-Day’s trailer, it did not exist at the time of the invasion.
Gears of War: E-Day gameplay
As shared in an Xbox Wire blog post, Gears of War: E-Day aims to capture the feeling of classic GOW cover-shooting gameplay while also feeling modern.
Creative director Matt Searcy stated “It’s going to feel like a new Gears game because that’s what it is. It’s us revisiting the tone and the feeling of what makes Gears great, but we’re tapping into new techniques, new processes, and new technology that’s going to make the gameplay feel better than ever. It’s going to be awesome, a game that feels both truly new and authentically Gears.”
Expect the Locust enemies to be more intimidating, as the devs are recasting these creatures as “living nightmares.” At its core, Gears of War: E-Day will be a third-person shooter, reliant on darting from cover to cover and taking down enemies using a mix of guns, melee weapons, explosives, and more.
