Scarabs in Genshin Impact is a tricky Local Specialty that’s needed to ascend characters such as Cyno. Here’s where you can find them while traveling in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact asks players to gather many different items and materials to level up characters. Scarabs are creatures especially difficult to find since they’re a Local Specialty that can only be found in a small area of the Sumeru region.

Scarabs can be used to get Cyno to his next Ascension level, but you’ll need 168 of them to level him up to the maximum level. If you’re trying to collect Scarabs and can’t find them anywhere, we’ve got you covered.

Genshin Impact: What is a Scarab?

A Scarab is a beetle that can be used as a Material in Genshin Impact. These are only found in the desert ruins of Sumeru, but there are over 80 locations where they could be hidden. Here’s the in-game description of Scarabs:

A hardy beetle that dwells in the vast desert. Its shell has patterns on it that resemble those that dot the ancient desert ruins, hinting at some deeper relation between the two. Legend has it that when the desert king ruled this land, the souls of those vanquished by him would be sealed within these insects by the magically-skilled priests at great triumphs held in the City of the Pillars.

The scarabs would then be charged with defending the sacred temples and palaces for all eternity in the name of Al-Ahmar. In the end, the temples would collapse and the palaces would fall, and only these golden insects would remain, fulfilling their ancient, forgotten oaths.

Genshin Impact: All Scarab locations

In Genshin Impact, you can find almost 80 Scarab locations scattered across the Great Red Sand Desert. As with any other Local Specialty, Scarabs respawn once every 48 hours, which means that you’ll need to wait after depleting every farming location.

Keep in mind that some of them can also be found underground, locked behind the desert’s clearance mechanic. You can only access this area after completing the Golden Slumber questline, but you’ll get four Scarabs for free by simply speaking to Nawaz in Aaru Village.

While Scarabs don’t move large distances, they usually tend to wander around certain areas. Here’s the list of every location where you’ll find them:
