GTA Online for Xbox 360 and PS3 shutting down officially
GTA Online had been on Xbox 360 and PS3 since it was first released, but Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA Online for Xbox 360 and PS3 will be shutting down by the end of this year.
GTA Online has been one of the most popular video games globally since its release on the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles in 2013. The past years have seen the popular multiplayer mode make its way onto PC and two additional generations of consoles, like the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
However, the eight-year run of GTA Online on the older consoles will end in 2021, as Rockstar Games has announced that it will be shutting the service for the older consoles down this year.
GTA Online Xbox 360 PS3 shutting down
Rockstar Games posted a Newswire blog post on June 16, 2021. They revealed to the community that “the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA Online, including website stat tracking via the Rockstar Games Social Club, will officially be shutting down on December 16, 2021.”
The developer also stated that Shark Cards for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of GTA Online would no longer be sold after September 15.
Rockstar clarified that only GTA Online will be shutting down and that this will have no effect on the player’s progress in the Grand Theft Auto V story mode.
While many players have moved on to play the popular multiplayer game on the newer generation of consoles over the years, there are still some who take part in the adrenaline-fueled action of the game on the older consoles in addition to the overall nostalgic notion of the older version of the game coming to an end after so long.
The shut down of GTA Online for these consoles is undoubtedly the end of an ear of gaming that launched what is considered to be one of the best multiplayer experiences of all time and will no doubt continue to be going forward.
