Helldivers 2 players urge others to log out to fight frustrating server cap
Arrowhead Game StudiosHelldivers 2’s popularity has exceeded all expectations and the game’s servers are failing to keep up. To keep the fight for Democracy going, players on Reddit are calling for a surprising measure.
Helldivers 2 has taken over PSN and Steam, and the game continues to grow in popularity with each passing day. It recently hit a peak concurrent player count of 409,367 on Steam, surpassing the numbers put up by games like GTA V, Starfield, Destiny 2, and more.
Players can’t seem to get enough of the co-op shooter’s exhilarating action which is complimented by its satirical tones. The entire community seems to have gathered under the banner of ‘Democracy’ to repel bugs and bots across the galaxy as Helldivers 2’s hype displays no signs of simmering anytime soon.
Unfortunately, players jumping into the game have experienced a major roadblock in the form of server issues. On launch day, many players were unable to connect to the servers, and the problem continues to persist for some.
To combat this, the devs raised the server’s maximum player capacity but there is still a hard cap of 500k players according to Helldivers 2’s creative director. In essence, it’s a supply and demand issue, as players are queuing up in droves to join the fight but the servers can’t enlist them all.
Some players have worked around this issue by simply refusing to log out once they’re in, which obviously ruins the experience for others. These antics have caused players on Reddit to rally under a post by user ‘MrDude65’, and call for inactive players to log out.
In the post, the OP stated, “Please stop just sitting in the game and not logging out when you’re done playing so you can stay in. The servers are capped, you’re taking up space from someone else. It only exacerbates the issue. The insane wait times are your fault. Don’t be a d**k.”
Many users in the comments agreed with the OP with one user saying, “Letting others in to fight the good fight is worth more to me than fast access. Staying logged in is truly treasonous behavior.”
Another user suggested a method to help fix the problem, “A lot of people are doing this. And a Reddit post won’t fix it. They need to add an afk timer. Think about it. You want to play when you’re off work but know it could take 30+ minutes of the 90 you have to play tonight. Or you could log in before work and get right into playing when you’re home.”
There were also a ton of comments stating that they were struggling to log into the game in the first place. All in all, it’s clear that server issues are still impacting the experience for some players, and it’s crucial that the devs implement a proper fix.
