Boss fights are the main highlight for a Souls-like game like Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Apart from the mainline bosses, you will encounter many more optional bosses as you explore the Shadow Realm.

Although fighting the optional bosses isn’t exactly necessary, you should try your best to defeat them because they drop items which can help make your quest against the mainline bosses easier.

How many bosses are in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree?

There are 55 confirmed bosses in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, out of which seven are the main storyline bosses that you need to beat if you want to complete the game.

The seven main bosses are as follows:

• Divine Beast Dancing Lion
• Rellana, Twin Moon Knight
• Golden Hippopotamus
• Romina, Saint of the Bud
• Messmer the Impaler
• Needle Knight Leda
• Promised Consort Radahn

Apart from the main bosses, the remaining ones can be grouped into different types based on where they spawn. These types are as follows:

• Dungeon bosses ( 10 bosses)
• Mausoleum bosses (4 bosses)
• Field bosses (13 bosses, but there are a few that you will encounter multiple times)

Main bosses

The seven main bosses that you come across in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, fall under this category. It’s worth noting that despite being the main bosses, there’s some flexibility in how you approach them.

For example, the Divine Beast Dancing Lion blocks the entry to the Tower of Shadow, but the Tower itself is blocked by the Sealing Tree which can only be destroyed if you’ve defeated Renalla, Golden Hippopotamus, and Romina.

Dungeon bosses

Just like the base game, the Shadow Realm also has some interesting dungeons for you to conquer. Within these Dungeons, you will come across some bosses that drop their Spirit Ashes, allowing you to summon them in later battles.

Mausoleum bosses

There are exactly four Mausoleums in the Realm of Shadows in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. Defeating these bosses will not only earn you the weapon they wield, but their armor sets as well, which you can use while traversing the area.

Field bosses

As you explore the Realm of Shadows, you will come across different bosses in the open world. From Furnace Golems to Ulcerated Tree Spirits, these bosses pack a punch but drop useful crafting material once you defeat them.
