FromSoftwareAstel, Naturalborn of the Void is one of the most memorable bosses in Elden Ring. So, here’s how to beat it, including its location, weaknesses, and more.
Ranni the Witch‘s questline in Elden Ring takes the Tarnished to a spooky Manor, the mystical ruins of an underground city, and even the wailing dunes to battle against a demigod. However, one of the most memorable parts of the quest takes place right at the tail-end, as players take on the eerie Astel, Naturalborn of the Void boss.
Described as a malformed star, the insectoid can be difficult to take down as it has multiple Gravitational attacks that can wipe out your HP. So, here’s how you can find and beat Astel in Elden Ring.

To get to Astel, Naturalborn of the Void in Elden Ring, follow these steps:
- Cross the Lake of Rot and get to the Grand Cloister Site of Grace.
- From the site, descend down and head west while running past all the centipede enemies.
- Eventually, you’ll see a herd of centipedes holding up their glaives, take the path towards their left.
- Once you spot a waterfall of rot, jump in the coffin sitting on the edge.
- You’ll now be transported to a cavern, just head straight past the fog gate to start the fight.
Crossing the Lake of Rot means taking a ton of damage and risking Scarlet Rot build-up. So, make sure to replenish your Flasks and carry Preserving Boluses. You’ll also encounter many enemies along the way, making it best to run past as many of them as possible.

Elden Ring: Astel boss fight guide
To defeat Astel in Elden Ring, you’ll need to watch out for its AoE attacks and get familiar with the animations for its Gravity moves. Follow a general approach of closing the distance, landing an attack or two near its head, and moving away as Astel prepares to counter. Remember not to get too greedy as it will punish you for extended combos.
To make things a bit easier, you can use tanky Spirit Ashes such as a Mimic Tear or Black Knife Tiche. These summons will distract the boss while you get close and attack its head. Also, try not to lock on to the boss while you’re dodging or moving around the area for some additional maneuverability. In terms of weaknesses, Astel can succumb to Scarlet Rot and Poison.
Right after you enter the boss room, it will likely fire a laser at you. Try rolling through it as opposed to moving towards the sides. As you run towards it to close the distance, it can attack in different ways including with its tail. You’ll need to avoid all these offenses until you get within range to start attacking yourself.
It’s crucial to be prepared for its Gravitational attacks, most of which are indicated by Astel raising his head and rising in the air. Move away from the boss when you spot this as it is likely to slam down on the ground with an AoE.
Another attack you need to watch out for is its devastating bite. It starts with Astel clicking its mandibles and quickly leaning in to grab you. There’s no way to escape if it catches you, so you’ll have to watch as your health takes a massive blow.
When Astel’s health drops to around 50%, the boss will teleport before sending a barrage of meteorites in your direction. The best way to survive is by heading towards the boss and rolling through the meteorites. Speaking of teleporting, it can also disappear and pop up directly above you. Run away as quickly as possible to avoid getting grabbed.
The boss crawls around the arena with menace, encouraging you to get closer or risk getting hit by its powerful ranged attacks. I, myself, was thrown off by the way Astel wrapped its tail before slamming it down or how its mandibles clicked as it swooped in for an attack. After a few attempts, you will learn to ignore these strange movements and get familiar with its moveset.
