CapcomIn Dragon’s Dogma 2, you can have a limited number of Pawns in your party, but how do you recruit them in the game? Here’s all the details you need.
Pawns are an important part of the Arisen’s story in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and they will assist you in combat whenever you come across enemies in the game. There are two basic types of Pawns that you will come across in the game, and just like your character, they can have different Vocations too.
So, here’s how you can recruit Pawns to your party in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: How many Pawns can you have in your party?
At any given point in time, you can have only three Pawns in your party in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Of these three one is your main Pawn, while the remaining are support Pawns.
It’s worth remembering that your main Pawn will level up with you, but your support Pawns will be level-locked. So, you will be replacing your support Pawns quite a lot.
Where to find & recruit Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2
To recruit a Pawn in Dragon’s Dogma 2 you’ll need to either find them in the world or through a Riftstone and then interact with them and press the hire button.
You will encounter Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2 in two basic ways:
- You will encounter them as you explore the world.
- You can summon them through Riftstones.
The first time you encounter a Riftstone will be in the Borderwatch Outpost, where you will be able to summon your main Pawn.
After this, you will start encountering Pawns through other Riftstones and while exploring the world.
Apart from your main Pawn, recruiting support Pawns may cost you Rift Crystals (RC) in Dragon’s Dogma 2, irrespective of whether you’ve encountered them in the open world or you’ve summoned them through Riftstones.
The amount of RC required to recruit a Pawn is given beside their hire button that shows up once you interact with them.
If you come across a Forgotten Riftstone, then you will be able to summon and recruit a Pawn with specific characteristics in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Sometimes, when you interact with a Forgotten Riftstone, a random high-level Pawn will be summoned.
Whenever you come across Pawns you like, you can always mark them as favorites. If you do that, you can always summon them through a Riftstone later on in the game.
How to summon your friends’ Pawn in Dragon’s Dogma 2
In Dragon’s Dogma 2, if you’re friends with someone on the platform you’re playing on, you can summon their Pawns as well. You can do this by visiting a Grand Riftstone in any of the major cities and then use search for friend’s Pawn or search by Pawn ID options by interacting with it:
Search by Friends’ Pawn
- Interact with the Riftstone.
- Click on the “Search for a Pawn” option.
- Select “Friends’ Pawn” and it should bring up the list of Pawns your friends have.
Pawn ID
Every Pawn has a unique ID that is displayed below their name. You can see this on the screen when you’re hiring them, or when you’re interacting with them within a Rift.
Here’s how you can use the feature:
- Interact with the Riftstone.
- Click on the “Search for a Pawn” option.
- On the menu that opens, select “Search by Pawn ID” and enter the unique ID of the Pawn you want to summon.
However, for you to be able to access your friends’ Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to have Network Features enabled in Options. If you want to use your friends’ Pawn, or they want to use your Pawn, the option Main Pawn Online Access needs to be enabled.
