How to level up in Payday 3
You can level up in Payday 3 by completing Challenges that hand out Infamy Points, cash, and occasionally, cosmetics. These challenges are divided into three major categories – Career, Combat, and Heist. Head to the Challenges tab in the main menu to track your Challenges progress.
Career challenges largely focus on players reaching a certain Infamy level and they reward you with C-stacks, tools, and armor. This is why we recommend grinding the Combat and Heist challenges to quickly gain XP in Payday 3.
Combat challenges have players use different weapons to break shields, get headshots, and other things while Heist challenges are objectives that you can complete during heists such as completing it before the police’s arrival, escaping without being downed, and more.
Max level in Payday 3
Infamy level 150 is the highest level you can achieve in Payday 3. You’ll be able to unlock all the weapons and skill upgrades by level 100 and the last 50 levels are purely to flex your in-game experience and expertise.
Another thing to note is that you gain 21 skill points while reaching level 100, which is the maximum amount of skill points for a character. This means that you cannot max out the entire skill tree by leveling up like Starfield, and the reason behind this could be to encourage players to try out specific playstyles during multiple playthroughs.
Best ways to get XP in Payday 3
Because just completing heists doesn’t grant XP in Payday 3, we’ve compiled a list of the best ways to increase your Infamy level in the game:
Best heists to farm XP in Payday 3
The following heists have the easiest objectives and can be completed rather quickly, so we recommend them to farm XP:
- Dirty Ice: According to a Steam guide by user (:´, you can complete Dirty Ice in under 4 minutes and gain 924 XP for every skill tree and weapon you’ve included in the loadout.
- Road Rage – This heist doesn’t allow you to use stealth, and its straightforward aggressive gameplay requirement is a great way to easily get XP as well as a ton of money.
- No Rest for the Wicked– The first heist in the game is pretty basic and hands out a decent amount of XP. Attempting this for XP is better if you have a proper squad that can manage to complete the heist in Stealth.
- Rock the Cradle & 99 Boxes – Two more heists that are very rewarding if completed in Stealth mode so try them out if you have a proper team with communication.
Stealth vs loud heists for XP
Keep in mind that completing missions in Payday 3 won’t grant you a bonus XP even if you’re able to maintain stealth up to the point where the heist goes loud by itself. We mention this because stealth heists need a lot more coordination, time, and planning, and if your goal is to gain XP quickly, forcing a stealth heist isn’t worth the effort.
Having said that, completing heists in stealth grants bonus weapon XP so you can try out the playstyle if you wish to improve your arsenal.
Why am I not getting any XP in Payday 3?
Simply completing challenges doesn’t hand out XP in Payday 3, and you’ll receive 0 XP if you didn’t complete any Challenge during the heist. However, if you’ve completed Challenges and are still not getting any XP, it could be due to a bug, and restarting the game is the best solution.
