After the better part of a decade in development, Dead Island 2 is finally set to arrive on April 21. This time around, developer Deep Silver is cranking things up a notch with a frantic main campaign full of quirky characters and, of course, zombies to bash through.
Following such a long wait, it’s no surprise that many players have already pre-ordered their copy of Dead Island 2, and are chomping at the bit to get in there and start clicking heads.

How to preload Dead Island 2 on PlayStation
PlayStation players can preload Dead Island 2 from April 19, two days before its April 21 launch date. Once you’ve pre-order the game from the PlayStation Store, the preload option will become available and the download can begin.
Here’s how to preload Dead Island 2 on PlayStation consoles:
- Pre-order Dead Island 2 from the PlayStation Store.
- On April 19, head into the Libary section of the home screen.
- Find and select Dead Island 2.
- Select ‘Preload’ to begin installing.
- Wait for April 21 to begin playing.
How to preload Dead Island 2 on Xbox
Xbox players can preload Dead Island 2 right now, as the option has been available since April 3. If you’ve secured your copy of the game in advance, the process is very similar to that on PlayStation.

- Make sure you’ve pre-ordered Dead Island 2 from the Xbox Store.
- Use the search bar to find and select the game.
- Hit ‘Proload’ to start the download.
- Wait for April 21 to open the app.
Can you preload Dead Island 2 on PC?
There is no option to preload Dead Island 2 on PC, even for those who have purchased the game through the Epic Games Store. Dead Island 2 isn’t getting a release on Steam, and Epic’s launcher isn’t giving players the chance to begin the installation ahead of time.
Instead, PC fans will have to wait until midnight on April 21 to download Dead Island 2 from scratch.

Dead Island 2 takes up between 19GB and 70GB of storage depending on your chosen platform. The last-gen versions with downgraded visuals take up a small amount of room, while the current-gen and PC versions require a much bigger chunk of hard drive space.
