The First Descendant has plenty of powerful characters to unlock, but hitting the maximum level doesn’t have to be the end of your journey with that Descendant, as you can reset their rank to start the grind again.

It’s a system that works similarly to the Prestige feature in Call of Duty, only you get to keep all of your weapons and skills. But, if you want to achieve the best build on a character and unlock their maximum potential, it’s an absolute must.

So, here’s how to rest your character back to level 1 in the First Descendant.

How to Prestige

You’ll need to use a Crystallization Catalyst on any Module Socket to Prestige in The First Descendant. However, this option is only available once you reach Mastery Level 7.

Doing this will reset your level on that particular character back down to Rank 1, but the tradeoff is that it halves the capacity cost of any Modules that fall under your chosen Module Socket Type.

Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Open up the main menu.
  2. Select the ‘Inventory’ tab.
  3. Click on ‘Descendant Module.’
  4. Select ‘Module Additional Settings.’
  5. Hit ‘Assign Module Type.’
  6. Pick the slot you want to upgrade and the type you want to assign to it.
  7. Finish by selecting ‘Apply Socket Type’ to spend your Crystallization Catalyst.

Resetting your Rank is vital if you want to improve your build.

Once you’ve done all this, the capacity used by any Module in that slot that matches the type you selected in step six will be halved. This is noted by the symbol that can be seen in the middle of the Module Socket.

It’s worth keeping in mind that this can also be done on your weapons, again reducing the capacity of certain Modules but resetting the gun’s Rank back to the beginning.

The benefit of this is that it means you can upgrade your modules much further to drastically increase the buffs they offer. Once you spend a Crystallization Catalyst on multiple Sockets on the same character, you’ll find that you’ll be able to achieve some ridiculously powerful builds that would be otherwise impossible due to the capacity limit.

How to get Crystallization Catalysts in The First Descendant

You can get a Crystallization Catalyst by Researching it with Anais or by getting it as a random drop. However, the odds of it dropping as regular loot are very low, so we recommend going the Research route to guarantee you get one of these essential items.

To Research it, find Anais in the Albion and head to the Enhancement Material section of the menu, where you’ll need the following items:

  • Gold (187,500)
  • Murky Energy Residue (8)
  • Macromolecule Biogel (22)
  • Mixed Energy Residue (8)
  • Advanced Neural Circuit (18)
  • Crystallization Catalyst Blueprint (1)

You can Research this item by heading to Anais.

Luckily, all of these resources can be farmed fairly easily, as they mostly require you to defeat specific enemies in certain areas. According to the Research Request menu in-game, it will take around seven and a half hours to earn all the materials needed to make one.

Of course, Prestiging and resetting a character’s Rank is completely optional, it’s only recommended if you want to fully optimize your build. Otherwise, you can spend your time unlocking all the other Descendants and their Ultimate variants or earning currency to get more skins for them.
