You can restart Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield by deleting your existing save data. The in-game settings do not allow this, but you can do so through the Nintendo Switch console.

- Open your Nintendo Switch’s home screen.
- Go to System Settings > Data Management > Delete Save Data.
- Find Pokemon Sword/ Pokemon Shield and choose to delete its data. Make sure that you choose the correct user.
- A caution will appear. Select the red Delete Save Data button.
Now, if you launch Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield with that specific user, you’ll begin with a brand-new save file. From language preferences to the avatar, all your details will be erased.
By restarting Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield, you can choose a starter Pokemon that best suits you and avoid a ton of mistakes that you might have made during the first run.
