How to unlock every character in The First Descendant

The First Descendant characters on fallen Descendant

Every new character in The First Descendant comes with a unique set of abilities to suit a specific playstyle, but unlocking each one is no easy task.

The free-to-play looter shooter gives you the choice of three to begin with, but earning each of the remaining Descendants is a major part of the endgame grind.

So, if you’re wondering how to get new Descendants in The First Descendant.

How to get new characters in The First Descendant

New characters need to be researched by talking to Magister Anais in the Albion in The First Descendant. We’ve marked her location on the map below:

Anais location in The First Descendant

By talking to her in the hub area, you’ll be able to start the Research Quest for each Descendant, which will task you with crafting the following four elements:

  • Enhanced Cells
  • Stabilizer
  • Spiral Catalyst
  • Code

From the research menu, you can see where to gather each of the resources, some of which will be regular drops for defeating enemies, while others will require you to farm specific areas. If you can’t see where the material is found, it means it’s from an enemy or location that you’re yet to discover.

The First Descendant features 14 unlockable characters at launch, as well as five Ultimate variants. Some require you to farm specific materials to research each component, while others are earned by picking up the components themselves during individual missions.

There’s also the option to head to the Descendant Material Shop in Albion, where you can purchase spare material that you’re missing. However, while this could save you hours of grinding, the resources cost a lot of Caliber.

How to unlock Descendants fast

Working to unlock characters in The First Descendant can be a difficult task, especially because the drop rates for their components can be daunting to think about. Unfortunately, there is no surefire trick to unlock Descendants fast, but there are ways to make the process easier.

The easiest way to unlock Descendants fast is to choose one and focus on their components

Codes for Descendants are the most difficult components to find, so to make the grind a little easier, make sure you find their Enhanced Cells, Stabilizers, and Spiral Catalysts first. Each of these takes around 16 hours to research.

Once you have these three and you start researching them, the time you take looking for their Code should mitigate the time you’d wait for that research to be done.

More Descendants are set to arrive in the future, so we’ll be sure to update this page with how to get each character.

The First Descendant is finally in players’ hands, so make sure you know the best Lepic build to get you started, as well as how Mastery and difficulties work.
