Is Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth turn-based? Combat explained
SEGALike a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is right around the corner as Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is back with more Yakuza. Many wonder if the game will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, so here’s whether it will be turn-based or not.
It’s time for Kasuga and Kiryu to team up yet again as the upcoming title, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will see both fan-favorite protagonists return as they visit the beaches of Hawaii. Set to be released on January 26, 2024, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is set to be one of the biggest releases this year.
Fans of Yakuza are well-versed in the combat system of the earlier titles. However, the entire system was changed when it became turn-based from the 2020 game, Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Many wonder if it will be the same in Infinite Wealth or if SEGA has some other plans for the combat system.
Here’s whether Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is turn-based.
Will Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth be turn-based?
Yes, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be turn-based, just like the previous title, Yakuza: Like a Dragon. After the success of the previous iteration, creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, and producer Kazuki Hosokawa confirmed that they will keep the turn-based style in a 2021 interview with IGN.
“The Yakuza series has been transformed into a turn-based RPG. On the other hand, over the years, Ryu ga Gotoku Studio has accumulated resources and know-how to make flashy and exhilarating action games that are effortless to enjoy. We decided that we should let our signature action gameplay live on through Lost Judgment,” confirmed the duo in the interview.
From the interview, it is clear that the creators have decided to keep things the turn-based way for future titles, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is no different.
However, turn-based combat is not everyone’s cup of tea and you might be among those who do not like the direction the Yakuza franchise went with. In that case, you can try real-time combat as well with Kiryu in the upcoming title as he will “awaken his fighting spirit” from time to time, in typical Kiryu style.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be released on both the old and new-gen consoles as the game will be arriving on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC.
