Is Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown open world?

Prince of Persia isn’t really known to be an open-world franchise, but for a series that has already been rebooted a couple of times, has Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown taken an open-world route?

Even though it was Prince of Persia that led to the birth of the Assassin’s Creed series, as the first AC game was supposed to be a sequel to The Sands of Time, the Prince of Persia franchise didn’t have many open-world entries. The only solitary open-world entry is 2008’s Prince of Persia.

We haven’t had a major Prince of Persia game for more than a decade, and the last installment in the series, The Forgotten Sands, wasn’t an open world either. However, most Ubisoft games are open-world, and they’re likely to release three massive open-world games in 2024, Skull and Bones, Star Wars Outlaws, and Assassin’s Creed Codename Red.

So, are Ubisoft making another open world in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown?

Will Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown be open world?

No, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is not an open-world game. But even though the game will follow a linear approach, like side-scrollers, Ubisoft officially describes The Lost Crown as a “semi-open-world” game.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is inspired by the Metroidvania genre. This means levels within the game are connected, and you can backtrack and go forward all the time. There is no one fixed path to travel.

While there is no freedom to go anywhere and climb anything as seen in Assassin’s Creed, Lost Crown definitely isn’t a purely linear game. You’ll have more than one place and direction to go and plenty of them will be optional, but all confined within a set level, like a “semi-open-world” or a Metroidvania.

That’s all you need to know about the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown being an open world. For more on other Ubisoft games, check out:
