Is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in the Arkham universe? Joker return explained
Rocksteady StudiosSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the latest game from Rocksteady to be inspired by DC Comics, but is it set in the same universe as their iconic Arkham games? Here’s everything you need to know.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is gearing up to be one of the biggest releases of 2024, continuing the trend of major superhero games after Spider-Man 2. It’s set to hit current-gen consoles and PC on February 2, with an early access period beginning on January 30.
Developers Rocksteady are well-versed in DC characters at this point, following the success of the popular Arkham series. This has left many fans wondering if Suicide Squad is set in the same universe as the likes of Arkham Asylum and Arkham Knight, with the reveal of Joker for Season 1 causing even more doubt.
Here’s everything you need to know about whether Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice is set in the Arkhamverse.
Is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League an Arkhamverse game?
Yes, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set in the Arkham universe. This means that the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Origins, and Arkham Knight are all canon to the story of the devs’ latest adventure.
The game picks up five years after the end of Arkham Knight. That being said, Suicide Squad focuses on a different cast of characters, such as Harley Quinn and King Shark, in Metropolis rather than the grim streets of Gotham City.
Players will be hoping that a number of familiar faces return over the course of the story, such as The Riddler, Catwoman, or even the Dark Knight himself.
How is Joker in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?
The Joker being added to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is not the same character that died in Batman: Arkham City. Rocksteady have revealed that the version of the Clown Prince of Crime coming in Season 1 is from another universe.
In a video revealing how Elseworlds, DC’s version of the multiverse, will impact the future of the game, the devs explained that this Joker is much earlier in his development as a villain, as “he hadn’t reached supervillain status before Brainiac invaded.”
That’s not to say that it will be a watered-down take on the character, however, as they claim that players will soon “realize he’s unhinged in a different way.”
