Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players convinced popular Gen 1 species “inspired” Paradox phenomenon
The Pokemon CompanyParadox species made their debut in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games, becoming a fan-favorite addition among the community. But a keen-eyed trainer may have found the inspiration behind these past and future-themed Pokemon, and to the shock of many, it’s a popular Gen 1 species.
Now that the Teal Mask DLC storyline of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is done and dusted, players are eagerly awaiting the release of the Indigo Disk DLC.
In the meantime, fans are actively engaged in various theories and speculations involving Paradox Pokemon, the Legendary Terapagos, DLC characters, and more.
Among these several interesting tidbits, a fan’s theory that speculates the possible inspiration behind Paradox Pokemon has caught the attention of the community as they believe it might be “headcanon.”
Reddit user ‘PokeOneKenobi’ shared a post that showed Scyther and its evolutions, Kleavor and Scizor, in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and wrote: “Was Scyther the first Pokemon to have Paradox forms?”
The OP added that “Scyther was the first Pokemon to have both a Regular form, then a Futuristic looking form (Scizor) then a Primitive looking one (Kleavor).”
They provided further context to the title by mentioning, “Scyther’s line Kleavor and Scizor are not Paradox Pokemon, but the Game Freak devs might have drawn inspiration from there for Paradox Pokemon.”
Many users agreed with the player’s theory as they commented that the OP wasn’t “alone in this (theory)” and that they “like it.” In fact, players are so convinced by Scyther’s potential connection to the Paradox Pokemon that they call it a “headcanon.”
But that’s not all, as another user pointed out “Game Freak likes to add clues and hints to future games so I think it was just hinting at the past and Future Paradox in the next game,” referring to Kleavor in Pokemon Legends Arceus.
The Pokemon games are notorious for dropping hints and Easter eggs to different Generations, such as the Unova region teases in Scarlet and Violet DLC, so it would be no surprise if the idea of Paradox Pokemon were indeed derived from the Scyther line.
