Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 story recap
Before we jump into Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ending, it’s important to know what happened in the early parts of the game. Both Peter and Miles are trying to establish a life outside of being Spider-Man at the beginning, with Peter finding it extremely hard to stick to a job and Miles having to send out applications for colleges.
Peter returns home to greet Mary Jane after holding off an attack from Sandman. However, Harry Osborn, son of Norman and Peter’s best friend from high school also shows up later, suffering from a degenerative disease. A cure has been found for Harry’s illness in the form of a new “suit” developed by Dr. Connors.
Harry reveals to Peter that he has been setting up a spectacular research facility called the Emily-May Foundation in honor of the late Emily Osborn and Aunt May. The foundation’s only focus is to heal the world and Peter is moved by this and decides to join Harry as a co-founder.
Kraven the Hunter makes his way to New York during this time, drawn by the superheroes and villains that are present in the city. He frees up most of the worst villains in custody, including Martin Li and Mister Negative, which pushes Miles to take revenge for his father’s death at the hands of Li. Later, it appears that Kraven is growing weak due to cancer, but he chooses to continue his quest and find his equal when it comes to combat.
The assault on Coney Island by the hunters overwhelms Peter, with many civilians coming close to dying. However, Harry’s suit suddenly springs to life, a strange black mass of goo and tendrils. With the suit’s help, they’re able to beat the hunters. Then, they head to confront Kraven, who beats both of them and ends up stabbing Peter.
Harry transfers his suit to Peter to save his life. Peter tries to give Harry the suit back during this period but is unsure of how to accomplish it. Dr. Connors’ dormant Lizard is awakened by Kraven before he has time to figure it out. When Peter uses the suit to defeat the massive Lizard, he discovers how powerful it is in the process.
Peter then displays unpredictable behavior, along with an increasing sense of violence and rage. Despite Harry informing him that without the suit he will pass away from his illness, Peter starts to have second thoughts about returning the suit. As Peter acts even more erratic, he becomes wild and attacks Miles and Mary Jane.
As a result, Kraven kidnaps Miles and forces him to fight Martin Li, who enters Miles’ mind and learns all about his past. Miles throws Martin Li out of the arena, saving him in the process, and asks him to get Spider-Man for help.
Peter reluctantly finds Miles and heads to his location to save him. After a chat with Kraven, Peter decides to fight Miles, as he is certain that Miles wants to snatch the suit for himself. They then engage in combat, with Miles gradually dealing enough damage to help Peter free himself from the parasite using the sound of a bell.
After Peter separates the Symbiote from himself, it’s contained in a jar and makes its way to Dr. Connors’ lab. However, a dying Harry interrupts Peter and Connors as they enter the lab. Harry claims that Peter doesn’t want to give him the Symbiote to save him.
Then, the alien manages to break out of the jar and bond with Harry, becoming the classic version of Venom, who makes quick work of Spider-Man and wreaks havoc throughout Oscorp.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 main ending explained
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ends with Peter Parker and Miles Morales working together to take down Venom, saving New York City from a Symbiote takeover. Peter and Miles cut the link between the Symbiote and Harry by destroying a meteorite that gave the alien its power.
While Harry is no longer a host to the alien, he’s received significant damage to his already weak body and dies at first. Miles then uses his electrical powers to restart Harry’s heart and save his life.
However, Harry is now in a coma, and his father, Norman Osborn blames the Spider-Men for his son’s condition. With no treatment in sight, out of desperation, Norman decides to call an unknown person ordering them to prepare the G Serum for use.
Norman was previously seen in Spider-Man 2, working on a new experiment to cure Harry’s rare condition and this serum is possibly that experiment.
After defeating Venom and saving the city, Peter tells Miles that he’s going to focus more on his personal life and step aside for a while from the life of Spider-Man. Miles assures Peter that he can continue as the only Spider-Man in New York and can keep the city protected. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ends with Miles swinging across the city to stop a crime in progress while Peter and Mary Jane stay at their home in Queens.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 post-credits scenes
First
The first post-credits scene in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 shows Norman Osborn visiting Otto Octavius, popularly known as the Dr. Octopus, in prison. Norman, who is still furious with Spider-Man for his son’s condition, urges Otto to reveal the identities of both Spider-Men since he thinks Otto is aware of their identities.
Otto refuses to disclose the information Norman desires, instead, he reveals to him that he’s been working on a book of some kind during his time in prison. Although Otto won’t tell what the subject of this book is, he does indicate that he is currently working on “the final chapter.”
Second
The second post-credits scene in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 shows Miles at home with his mother who us getting ready to meet the man she’s been dating. After Hailey, Miles’ love interest, arrives at the Morales house, there is a knock at the door, and Albert Moon and his daughter Cindy are standing outside. Cindy isn’t fully visible but can be seen waving to greet Miles, his mother, and Hailey.
How this ending sets up Marvel’s Spider-Man 3
With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ending bringing the G Serum into play, it can be speculated that Insomniac Games have plans to bring the Green Goblin in Spider-Man 3. Although the sequel is yet to be officially announced by PlayStation, the story itself seems to give an idea of what’s to follow.
Norman Osborn will likely take the G Serum himself and transform into the Green Goblin. We know Norman blames both Spider-Men for his son’s condition, so he will likely be the antagonist in the next title. Additionally, we also see Dr. Octopus briefly featured in the first post-credits scene, hinting towards his plans for revenge against Spider-Man as well.
Finally, Cindy Moon’s cameo in the second post-credits scene can mean that there’s a third Spider character gearing up for Spider-Man 3. In Marvel’s Spider-Man comics, Cindy is the hero Silk, who has her Spider-like powers and works often with the Spider-Men to keep the city safe.
