Apex Legends studio working on new Star Wars FPS game
Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Apex Legends, Titanfall, and Jedi: Fallen Order, have announced they’re working with Lucasfilm Games to develop a brand-new Star Wars FPS game.
Star Wars’ video games are almost as popular as the movies themselves, with games such as the Battlefront series, The Force Unleashed, and Knights of the Old Republic all being adored by fans of the sci-fi franchise.
As we wait for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and the Jedi: Fallen Order sequel to release, the studio behind Apex Legends and Titanfall has announced they’re developing a new Star Wars FPS game.
In a press release on January 25, EA announced that Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games are developing an “all-new Star Wars first-person shooter game.”
The project will be helmed by Peter Hirschmann, who has worked on almost every Star Wars game to date, including the original Battlefront II, The Force Unleashed, the classic LEGO games, and Republic Commando.
Hirschmann said, “Working with Lucasfilm Games on a new FPS in the Star Wars galaxy is a dream come true for me, as this is a story I have always wanted to tell.”
What the game will be is anyone’s guess, but EA confirmed that Hirschmann’s team has “just begun work on the title,” so we likely won’t see the game for at least a couple of years.
Respawn are currently hiring to help develop the Jedi: Fallen Order Sequel, a new strategy game, and Hirschmann’s FPS title.
Respawn’s founder, Vince Zampella, said: “We are huge fans of Star Wars here at Respawn and we’re thrilled to work with Lucasfilm Games on new titles that we have wanted to make for years.”
Stay tuned to Charlie INTEL for any developments on this new Star Wars FPS game, and check out the rumor that lightsabers will return to Fortnite for an Obi-Wan crossover.
