How to unlock mill in Stardew Valley
You can purchase the mill in Stardew Valley from Robin at the Carpenter Shop with the following items:
- 50 Stone – Use a pickaxe to break rocks around your base.
- 2500g – Grow and sell crops for a profit, pick the best professions, and generate passive income.

How does the mill work in Stardew Valley?
You can use the mill in Stardew Valley to:
- Turn wheat into flour. You can get wheat in the game by growing it during summer and fall. A scythe is required to harvest it from the field.
- Turn unmilled rice into rice. Rice is unlocked during your second in-game year and it grows during Spring.
- Turn beets to sugar. Beets grow during fall, and you can purchase their seeds from Sandy.
Regardless of the quantity of wheat, rice, and beets you put in the mill, the building will take one day to turn it into flour, rice, and sugar, respectively.
There’s a small box to the right of the mill where the flour, rice, and sugar are stored. You don’t have to collect these materials as there’s no expiry range and new processed items can be added whenever you want, but do note that the box only has 36 storage slots. Anything you mill after these slots are full will be wasted.
Is the mill worth it in Stardew Valley?
The mill in Stardew Valley is only worth it if you plan to cook a lot as flour, rice, and sugar are very common ingredients in the game. After you’ve made a relatively substantial farm, buying these items directly is a far more convenient method.
The mill also increases the base selling price of rice and you can make a decent profit through this. However, don’t expect anything financially significant after setting up the building.
Lastly, many find the mill aesthetically pleasing and see it as a great addition to their farm. If you feel the same, don’t refrain from spending some resources as recovering them wouldn’t take long.
