The new looter shooter from Nexon Games, The First Descendant, is releasing on July 2, and many players are wondering how multiplayer will work – including if  the game has any PvP modes.

Here is everything you need to know about multiplayer in The First Descendant, including how to party up, party sizes, if it has crossplay, and if the game has PvP.

How many people can play co-op?

The First Descendant has 4-person co-op mode, so you can play with up to three friends online.

The entire campaign can be played cooperatively, and you’ll especially want some teammates to take on tough bosses in Void-Intercept battles. The game also has Consecutive Survival and Consecutive Defense missions which get easier in co-op.

How to invite friends & find teammates

To invite friends in The First Descendant, you need to navigate to the Social tab in the map menu.

The Social tab can be found in the same menu where your map is. To invite a friend, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Social tab.
  2. Select the icon on the far left of the screen with the profile symbol in it.
  3. Click on any of your friends under ‘Friends.’
  4. Select ‘Invite to Party.’

You can find the Social tab when you’re looking at your map.

The Social tab also has a ‘Local players’ section where you can invite new friends to your party. It’s in the same area of the social tab, but you just need to click on the icon with the computer chip symbol on the left instead.

You can also search for a player name with the Player Search option on the far right of the screen. This is also where you’ll find any friend requests you have received.

Does it have crossplay?

Yes, the First Descendant has crossplay and cross-progression.

If you don’t want crossplay, however, you can disable it in the game’s settings. Cross-progression will work across PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

Are there PvP modes?

No, there won’t be PvP modes in The First Descendant, at least not at launch.

Game Director Minseok Joo confirmed that this would be the case in one of the Dev Talks about crossplay and the Open Beta. They said that they are aiming to keep The First Descendant true to PvE and cooperative play.

Since it’s a live service game, though, this could change sometime in the future. For now, The First Descendant will not have PvP on release. Keep an eye on this page for any updates.
