Nexon Games Co. has finally announced the official release date of The First Descendant, an epic post-apocalyptic looter shooter. Here’s everything you need to know about it, including its platforms and trailers.

The First Descendant is a free-to-play third-person looter shooter that invites players to fight powerful enemies and defend the last remainder of humanity against the Colossuses.

The First Descendant release date

Nexon Games Co. confirmed that The First Descendant will be released on July 2, 2024.

The date was confirmed in a trailer revealed during Summer Games Fest on June 7, which you can watch alongside some more gameplay reveals below.

What platforms is The First Descendant on?

The First Descendant will be available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

You can wishlist the game on Steam right now, but unfortunately, it does not look like it will be available on Xbox Game Pass. This may change in future, though, so we will let you know of any future updates regarding the platforms you can play it on.

Is The First Descendant free to play?

Yes, The First Descendant will be free to play.

So, even though it isn’t looking like it’ll be on Game Pass, the game is available for free to all players on all platforms.

Does The First Descendant have crossplay?

Yes, The First Descendant will also support crossplay.

The game hosted a crossplay Beta in September 2023, and it supported all players from Xbox to PC from all available regions. The devs have been working on making crossplay as smooth as possible from launch, and you should be able to play with your friends on other platforms.

The First Descendant gameplay & story explained

The First Descendant is a third-person cooperative action looter-shooter that invites players to face giant boss fights through four-player teams.

Descendants are superhuman beings who are physically strong and have magical abilities, and your main mission is to protect the Ingris continent from Colossuses, who seek to destroy all that’s left of humanity.

You can choose to play between 11 characters:

  • Lepic
  • Ajax
  • Viessa
  • Jayber
  • Sharen
  • Gley
  • Blair
  • Bunny
  • Freyna
  • Valby
  • Kyle

Esiemo, Enzo, and Yujin are three more characters that only have the ‘coming soon’ tag on The First Descendants website right now, but we may be able to see more of them when the game officially releases.

Each character will have special abilities that you can use to take down enemies, and of course, a whole arsenal of weapons to choose from. Since the first Open Beta, the devs have also added significant updates to the game that include improvements to co-op and more endgame content.

You’ll set out to complete missions, and as part of the endgame content the devs have added, you’ll also be able to complete challenging dungeons. Single-player and co-op play are both supported, and you can also change the difficulty setting to match what you want to experience.
