Mastery is an important part of leveling in The First Descendant, and you’ll be able to start doing it from pretty early on as you gain XP with your Descendant

If you’re wondering what the mechanics of Mastery are, here’s everything you need to know about how to rank up, what it is, and how it adds to your progression. 

Mastery explained

Mastery is an account-wide leveling system in The First Descendant that makes your Descendants stronger.

Right now, there are a total of 30 Mastery ranks, and each time you rank up, you’ll unlock new content and get a variety of bonuses for your Descendants.

How to rank up Mastery

You can rank up Mastery in The First Descendant by going to the Prime Hands terminal in Albion. The marker on your map will glow yellow if you have a rank available.

Approach the terminal, and interact with it to see the bonuses you can get. Once you’ve given it a read, click the ‘Confirm’ button to rank up. A short cutscene will play (which you can also skip), and you’ll have ranked up.

You need to earn enough XP to rank up your Mastery, though, and this can be done through a variety of activities: 

  • Completing missions
  • Leveling up Descendants
  • Raising weapon proficiency

Mastery beneifts

Ranking up your Mastery in The First Descendant gives you a variety of benefits and unlocks new features, including increased Descendant Module slots and increased Weapon Module slots. Here is the full list of bonuses you’ll get: 

  • Increased Equipment Inventory
  • Increased Storage
  • Increased Shape Stabilizer Inventory Limit
  • Increased Descendant Module capacity and slots
  • Increased Weapon Module capacity and slots

Ranking up also gives you access to new features like Weapon Readjustment and unlocking the Laboratory. Overall, Mastery is an important feature, and you should check when you’ve got a rank up available anytime you’re in Albion.
