What is Riot ID? Summoner Names replacement explained & how to change your ID
Riot GamesRiot Games have made some changes that will impact the notorious Summoner Names across the League of Legends franchise, including Legends of Runeterra and Wild Rift.
Riot Games surprised its community with an announcement that quickly stirred discussions on forums and social media. According to their statement, Riot decided to eliminate Summoner Names and transition all players to Riot IDs.
However, this change will be rolled out gradually. As explained by the developers, the goal is to create a more unified experience across all their games. This indicates that this will mark the end of Summoner Names with puns or references to champions.
However, what exactly is a Riot ID? Here’s everything you need to know about the new system replacing Summoner Names.
What is Riot ID?
The Riot ID is the new identification system that Riot Games are started to implement. If you’ve ever played any Riot game, (such as League of Legends, Valorant, Runeterra, etc.) then you already have your own Riot ID.
With this new system in place, Riot’s goal is to phase out Summoner Names so that users and developers can interact through their Riot ID.
How to check your Riot ID
If you’re not sure what your Riot ID is or where to find it, you should know that there are two ways to check it:
- Log into Riot’s website and your Riot ID should be listed at the top.
- The other way to check your Riot ID is through the League of Legends launcher, hovering over your profile picture, and your information with the Riot ID will automatically appear.
How to change your Riot ID
Players who want to change their Riot ID can do so easily from the official Riot Games website. The developers have confirmed that they will give all players a free opportunity to change their Riot ID once a year.
However, those who have already used this opportunity and want to change their Riot ID again within the 365 days mentioned earlier can do so for a fee of approximately $10 in in-game currency.
Starting from November 20, the only in-game currencies that will be supported are Riot Points and Legends of Runeterra Coins, but Riot have confirmed that they are working to add Valorant Points, Wild Rift Cores, and TFT Coins in the future.
