How to complete Of Rats and Raiders & find Darak in No Rest for the Wicked
You can find Falstead Darak in No Rest for the Wicked by completing the “Of Rats and Raiders” questline given by Winnick in the Gallows of Sacrament. After starting the quest, you will be tasked with fighting Darak twice, the first time in the Orban Glades and the second in The Black Trench (the Sewers), which can only be opened if you complete the first part of the questline.
This first encounter with Darak is not particularly challenging if you can manage to dodge his attacks, which are fairly slow and predictable. There are other enemies around him, though, so beware of that – or let him damage them for you, as his attacks will kill his allies too.
Even so, you also want to make sure you are prepared for this fight. Take plenty of food and the best armor and weapons you have, otherwise, it will be a lot more difficult.
Once you get him down to about a quarter of his health, a cutscene will play and he will run away from you. Return to Sacrament and follow these steps to continue the quest and get to The Black Trench:
- Speak to Odessa in her cell.
- Find Rattigan in one of the cells outside and he will ask you to break him out in exchange for information.
- Head up the tower left of Rattigan’s cell and listen to the guards, who will tell you where the key is.
- Head down to the fountain and find a drunk guard, loot the key off of him.
- Return to Rattigan, release him, and then head back to The Shallows.
Once you’ve released Rattigan, he will tell you that Darak is hiding out in The Black Trench. To get to the point he mentions, you should go back to where you first started the game and head up toward the Sewer entrance.
How to get through The Black Trench in No Rest for the Wicked
Once you’ve entered the Sewers in the No Rest for the Wicked “Of Rats and Raiders” questline, you will have to solve a series of puzzles to get to Darak.
Unlock the first bridge
- Go down the spiral stairs near the first Whisper and grab the Drainage Cellars key at the back.
- Head back upstairs, follow the path left, and open the door using the Drainage Key.
- Head downstairs to find a lever on the left. Pull it to build a bridge.
- Cross the bridge and keep heading south until you spot a second lever to the left. As soon as you pull the lever, sprint to the circle platform to the right and stand on it.
- Jump to the platform on the right.
- Sidle along the wall on the far right of this platform to reach another lever. Pull it to build another bridge.
Return to the first door
- Follow the bridge to the left and walk up the spiral staircase and defeat the enemies to find the Water Channel Key.
- Use the Water Channel Key on the big wooden door downstairs.
- Pull the lever north of this area and run to the circular platform to the left and pull the lever to drain the water.
- Drop down to the bottom of the sewers and follow the path southwest until you run into a spiral staircase.
- Look for a log to cross to the opposite side and grab the lever handle on the floor.
- Place the lever on the mechanism to the right of the chamber and pull it.
- Cross the bridge and activate the mechanism at the back of the Water Channel.
- As soon as you pull this lever, make a run for the circular platform on the bottom right.
Raise the water in the entrance chamber
- Drop down to the lower level and look for another lever to the right of the corridor to raise the water.
- Swim southwest, climb out of the water, and use a ladder to reach higher ground.
- To progress to Darak, pull the lever right next to the entrance.
- Go back to the Cerim Whisper near the entrance to the Sewers.
- Pull the lever next to this first Whisper.
Once you have followed these steps, you will have an easy way into the area where you find Darak, and you can fight him.
It’s worth noting that the Sewers are a pretty difficult area to get through. There are a lot of new enemies, and they all have some kind of explosive or quick attack that can take you down in one hit if you’re not careful. Make sure you’re always stocked up on food when you try and get through here.
How to defeat Flastead Darak in No Rest for the Wicked
Falstead Darak has two phases in No Rest for the Wicked, and each one needs a different strategy.
There is a Fire Pit just before you get to the area where you fight him, so make sure you stock up on plenty of food items so you can heal up during the fight. It’s also useful to have some bombs on hand.
The first phase of the second fight with Darak is very similar to the first time you encounter him. His attacks are sluggish and easier to dodge, so if you want to adopt a heavy build, that should work fine here.
His second phase, however, he becomes a lot quicker and his attacks are a lot more difficult to predict. Here is where it’s advisable to switch to weapons that can get damage in quickly before you dodge away.
We found that using Flamescale oil on our weapons when fighting Darak did great damage, so make sure you stock up on some of those before you head into the Sewers.
