Tekken 8 Azucena character information
Azucena was the first completely new character announced for Tekken 8 and she is from Peru. Her full name is Azucena Milagros Ortiz Castillo, but Azucena is also known as the “Coffee Queen.”
According to Tekken fandom, Azucena has joined the King of Iron Fist Tournament in order to “promote further and boost the recognition” of her family-run coffee plantation and farm.
Tekken 8’s Azucena features a colorful design, with a predominantly red outfit along with a colorful hooded jacket with a lot of nature and Peruvian-inspired patterns and art throughout. She also has some colorful feathers in her hair, which is likely a reference to Peruvian featherwork.
What does Azucena mean in English?
The name Azucena actually translates to Lily in English, so it’s no surprise to see Azucena and Lily with a special intro that was revealed in her gameplay trailer.
Azucena’s Tekken 8 Peru stage
Azucena’s family runs the Ortiz Farm, which is a Peruvian coffee plantation that is also a playable stage that fans were able to catch a glimpse of in her character trailer.
The stage location looks very similar to Peru’s Machu Picchu, a historic 15th-century Incan settlement in the mountains that stands as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
Azucena’s Peru stage also features both a wall and floor break, which are both seen in her gameplay trailer. You can also expect to see some wildlife, as Lamas and birds can be seen on the stage as well.
Tekken 8 Azucena fighting style
Azucena’s official fighting style in Tekken 8 is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). The Coffee Queen’s gameplay will feature a combination of punches and kicks, as well as some very interesting dodging and parrying mechanics, as seen in her character reveal trailer.
When she connects with powerful blows, you will also notice a feather special effect, which is again reference to her Peruvian descent.
A lot of her personality and in-game quips reference coffee, as even her Rage Art move ends with her asking the opponent how they like their coffee before delivering the final blow. So, for those coffee lovers out there, perhaps you’ve found your new main.
