Zhu Yuan is a powerful DPS in Zenless Zone Zero, so you’ll want to enhance her ATK, CRIT Rate, and CRIT DMG with her build. Since her abilities are pretty straightforward, you won’t have trouble mastering them. What’s more, Zhu Yuan is very F2P-friendly, so you can pair her with free characters and still unleash her full potential in battle.

Zhu Yuan abilities in Zenless Zone Zero explained

• Don’t Move! (Basic Attack) – [Assault Mode] Unleash a flurry of martial arts, bullets, and Ether Buckshots in a series of up to five attacks, dealing Physical DMG and Ether DMG. When the 4th or 5th hits strike an enemy, obtain one Enhanced Shotshell. While using this skill, you can also activate Dash Attack: Firepower Offensive and readjust to face the selected direction. While under Assault Mode, hold Basic Attack to switch to Suppressive Mode.
• Please Do Not Resist (Basic Attack – Hold) – [Suppresive Mode] Unleash up to three Shotshell piercing attacks, dealing Physical DMG. If Zhu Yuan has Enhanced Shotshells upon firing, one Enhanced Shotshell will be consumed, dealing massive Ether DMG. While using this skill, you can drag the stick to activate her Dash Attack: Overwhelming Firepower and readjust to face the selected direction. While in Suppressive Mode, release Basic Attack to return to Assault Mode.

Zhu Yuan is an S-Rank Ether Attack Agent. The only other Ether unit in the game so far is Nicole, so you might want to add Zhu Yuan to your team to deal with powerful enemies in the Hollows.

Her abilities aren’t too complicated and she can deal lots of damage from a safe distance. What’s more, Zhu Yuan can work great in free-to-play teams, making the Agent a very friendly unit for the early stages of the game.

Best W-Engines for Zhu Yuan

Riot Suppressor Mark VI

Zhu Yuan debuted alongside her signature W-Engine, which is featured in the weapon banner alongside her. Riot Suppressor Mark VI increases CRIT Rate by 15% for starters. Additionally, launching an EX Special Attack grants the equipper eight Charge stacks. Then, whenever the equipper’s Basic Attack deals Ether DMG, consumes a Charge stack and increases the skill’s DMG by 35%.

Zhu Yuan is the only Ether Attack Agent in the game so far. This means you won’t find uses for this W-Engine with any other character yet.

The Brimstone

Upon hitting an enemy with a Basic Attack, Dash Attack, or Dodge Counter, the equipper’s ATK increases by 3.5% for 8 seconds, stacking up to eight times. This effect can trigger once every 0.5 seconds. The duration of each stack is calculated separately.

Since Zhu Yuan will be the main DPS on your team, increasing her ATK is key to making the most out of her kit.

Cannon Rotor

Increases ATK by 7.5%. Landing a critical hit on an enemy will inflict an additional 200% of ATK as DMG. This effect can trigger once every 8 seconds.

Most free-to-play W-Engines for Attack Agents have similar effects and require the same conditions to be triggered, but I recommend equipping Cannon Rotor, as it’s easy to activate and can make Zhu Yuan’s attacks a force to be reckoned with.

Best Drive Discs for Zhu Yuan

Chaotic Metal

• Two-piece set effect: Increases Ether DMG by 10%.
• Four-piece set effect: The equipper’s CRIT DMG increases by 20%. When any character in the squad triggers Corruption’s additional DMG, this effect further increases by 5.5% for 8 seconds, stacking up to six times. Repeated triggers reset the duration.

Chaotic Metal is by far the best Drive Disc for Zhu Yuan. You’ll increase her Ether DMG output while also enhancing her CRIT DMG. In some cases, she can trigger Corruption on her own thanks to her powerful Enhanced Shotshells, so you’ll be activating these bonuses often.

Woodpecker Electro

• Two-piece set effect: Increases CRIT Rate by 8%.
• Four-piece set effect: Landing a critical hit on an enemy with a Basic Attack, Dodge Counter, or EX Special Attack increases the equipper’s ATK by 9% for 6 seconds. The buff durations for different skills are calculated separately.

While you can pick the full set of Woodpecker Electro, combining its two-piece set with a four-piece set of Chaotic Metal is ideal. Increasing Zhu Yuan’s CRIT Rate will help trigger Chaotic Metal’s effects regularly.

Hormone Punk

• Two-piece set effect: Increases ATK by 10%.
• Four-piece set effect: Upon entering combat or switching in, its user’s ATK increases by 25% for 10 seconds. This effect can trigger once every 20 seconds.

This Drive Disc is great for DPS Agents. So, if you’re only looking to improve Zhu Yuan’s ATK, Hormone Punk is the way to go.

Best Zenless Zone Zero teams for Zhu Yuan

Zhu Yuan can work great alongside Nicole and Anby if you’re going for a free-to-play composition. Nicole and Zhu Yuan can activate each other’s Core Skills, and both being Ether units will trigger Corruption more often.

On the other hand, Zhu Yuan can deal extra damage to stunned enemies, so having a Stun Agent can make a huge difference.

If you’re looking for a different team, you should still stick to the main roles, pairing Zhu Yuan with a Support and a Stun. That said, we also recommend a team with Lycaon as Stun and either Soukaku or Rina as Support.

• Quick Reload (C1) – When Zhu Yuan activates a Chain Attack/Ultimate, she gains the Quick Reload effect. When Zhu Yuan has the Quick Reload effect and uses up all Enhanced Shotshells, the Quick Reload effect will be consumed to instantly gain 6/9 Enhanced Shotshells.
• Ether Ember (C2) – In Suppressive Mode, Zhu Yuan’s Anti-Interrupt level is increased and DMG taken reduced by 10%. When Zhu Yuan hits an enemy with Enhanced Shotshells, the target takes 10% more Ether DMG from Basic Attack: Please Do Not Resist and Dash Attack: Overwhelming Firepower, stacking up to five times and lasting for 5 seconds. Each shot adds one stack of this effect, and repeated triggers reset the duration.
• Public Security Special Training (C3) – Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2.
• Ether Perforation (C4) – When Zhu Yuan hits an enemy with Enhanced Shotshells, her Basic Attack: Please Do Not Resist and Dash Attack: Overwhelming Firepower ignore 25% of the target’s Ether RES.
• Special Ops Experience (C5) – Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2.
• Expanded Energy Pack III (C6) – When Zhu Yuan consumes a total of 12 Enhanced Shotshells, she receives the Ether Afterglow effect, and the Energy cost of the next EX Special Attack is reduced by 30. Launching an EX Special Attack will consume Ether Afterglow and shoot an additional 4-bullet Ether Buckshot. Each extra bullet deals DMG equal to 220% of Zhu Yuan’s ATK.
