Call of Duty: Ghosts

Ghosts DLC 3 ‘Invasion’ announced; available June 3rd on Xbox Live

Published

on

Activision and Infinity Ward have announced the third DLC pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts, Invasion. Invasion DLC launches June 3rd on Xbox One and Xbox 360 first, with other platforms to follow.

Invasion features Pharaoh, Departed, Mutiny, and Favela multiplayer maps and Episode 3 of the Extinction story called ‘Awakening.’

Multiplayer Maps:

  • “Departed” is a medium-sized map set in a rural Mexican town during the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. The colorfully decorated streets, vendor carts and storefronts provide ample cover for run-and-gunners, and players that complete the map’s unique Field Order will unlock the Death Mariachi killstreak. Armed with dual-wielding pistols, the Death Mariachi settles scores, with each kill turning enemy players into another member of the band, and a temporary squad mate.
  • “Pharaoh” is the abandoned archeological site of an ancient Egyptian palace. Players will have to be on the lookout for collapsing monuments and urns full of flesh-eating scarabs, among other surprises in this multi-level map. Inside the palace, gamers will battle through multiple chambers ideal for close-quarters combat and short-range weapons, all under the watchful eye of Anubis, the half-jackal/half-human, protector of the dead, who will handsomely reward players who unlock this map’s Field Order.
  • “Mutiny,” transports players to a remote Caribbean island harboring an eerie pirate hideout complete with abandoned trading posts and prison cells. Speed and stealth are a must as players navigate the narrow and intertwining pathways. However, let ye be warned that gamers taking up positions on the pirate ship moored in the center of the map will become vulnerable to enemy fire from the numerous flanking routes created by the map’s horseshoe shaped dock. Players that unlock “Mutiny’s” Field Order will find themselves escorted by two ethereal ghost pirates, who will happily send enemy combatants down to Davey Jones’ locker on their behalf.
  • MW2’s “Favela” returns. Since its original release, the Brazilian shantytown has seen substantial change. Buildings once under construction are now complete, while others have crumbled into a state of disrepair. Players must avoid falling to their death as they traverse the map from one building to the next, with ramshackle scaffolding creating varied pathways between structures, and enemy snipers taking advantage of the long sightlines. Players who complete the Field Order in “Favela” will be able to call in heavy air support from a nearby Y-8 Gunship to bring the rain with a 105mm cannon, a 40mm auto-cannon and a 25mm cannon.

Extinction:

  • “Episode 3: Awakening.” In Awakening, the team descends into the perilous alien underworld to strike at the subterranean fortress of the Ancestors – the mysterious puppet-masters behind the Cryptid invasion. Armed with a range of new hi-tech weapons and equipment, the team must penetrate a series of defensive barriers to reach the Ark and unlock the secrets of the Ancestors’ psychic powers. As the final battle draws closer, the fate of the Earth and the future of the human race hang in the balance.

Here’s the Field Order for the MP maps:

Estimated total number of players on PlayStation 4 for each Call of Duty title since 2013

Published

on

Last week, Sony launched the PS4 My Life campaign which allows PlayStation 4 players to see some of their stats. Statistics include overall play-time, top 3 most-played games, rarest trophy, and more.

The rarest trophy statistic provides the exact number of players who earned said trophy. Using this data, Redditor /u/Kalinine has created a report on /r/CallofDuty estimating the total number of players each Call of Duty title since 2013 received on PlayStation 4.

It’s important to note that these are simply rough estimations – Activision has not confirmed these numbers.

Black Ops 4’s numbers will appear significantly low due to releasing only 2 months ago. The influx of players from Christmas also have yet to arrive.

via /u/Kalinine | /r/CallofDuty

In order of highest player count to lowest…

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops III – 54.7M
  2. Call of Duty: WWII – 25.5M
  3. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – 21.3M
  4. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – 18.4M
  5. Call of Duty: Ghosts – 13.2M
  6. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered – 10.6M
  7. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – 9.8M

Black Ops III’s player count is incredibly high, likely to it being available for free to all PlayStation Plus members from June 12th to July 11th, 2018.

While this is a rough idea of total player counts, there’s still many variables which contribute to its inaccuracy.

  • It’s assumed that the numbers are global, however this cannot be confirmed.
  • It’s not known whether these numbers are players who launched the titles or simply had them installed.
  • According to Redditors, the numbers span only from November 20th to December 4th, 2018.
  • The author of the report did not include Trophies with a percentage lower than 0.5% to reduce inaccuracy.

What are your thoughts on these numbers? While it may seem worrying to see Black Ops 4’s numbers low, it’s important to take into account all of the aforementioned points.
