Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to be one of the biggest game releases of all time, and a new report has revealed that GTA 6 will feature a female protagonist for the first time in the series’ storied history.

Few games have ever received the intense hype that Grand Theft Auto 6 has, despite the fact that nobody has ever seen a second of gameplay. Long before GTA 6 was announced by Rockstar, fan anticipation was at a fever pitch, desperate for even a crumb of information.

As development continues on the game, journalist Jason Schreier has revealed some major details about GTA 6, including news of a first female protagonist, and more information about the map location.

The major news from Schreier’s Bloomberg report is that for the first time, a Grand Theft Auto game will have a woman as one of the playable main characters.

According to the report, the woman is Latina and will be “one of a pair of leading characters,” in the game’s story mode, which has apparently been influenced by legendary bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde.

Also included in the report is news that Grand Theft Auto is set for a return to Florida, with Schreier stating that the map will be a “fictional version of Miami and its surrounding areas.”

This means that we’re likely headed back to an expanded Vice City, which was last seen back in the early 2000s in the original Vice City game.

Interestingly, the report seems to confirm the infamous ‘Project Americas’ leak that claimed Rockstar were working on locations across North and South America.

Schreier writes that changes to Rockstar’s working culture meant they scaled back original plans for the game, but noted that they now plan to “continually update the game over time, adding new missions and cities on a regular basis.”

With so much hype around GTA 6, it’s no surprise that leaks and reports continue to drop. Recently, leakers have claimed that the game will be 500 hours long, while a huge drop included claims about characters, locations, and the future of GTA Online.

While all eyes may be on the future of Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar are continuing to drop new content for the current game, including a host of new vehicles in The Criminal Enterprises DLC update.
