The CEO of Take-Two has addressed the company’s approach to remastering older games and explained that the PS5 and Xbox Series X version of GTA 5 will be more than just a simple port.

GTA V is the best-selling video game of the past decade, and this has led to a ton of hype for a remastered version in the near future. Take-Two did not dismiss the idea, and fan excitement grew once they announced that it sold over 140 million copies.

We expect to see the new version of the game on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in late 2021, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has reassured fans that Rockstar will put in the extra work when remastering old titles.

Will Take-Two keep remastering old titles?

During the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference on March 3, Zelnick was asked about the role that remasters will play in Take-Two’s future strategies. He made it clear that they aim to differentiate themselves from the competition.

“I’m not sure there’ll be a bigger part of the strategy. Remastering has always been a part of the strategy,” he stated.

“We’ve done differently than the competition – we don’t just port titles over, we actually take the time to do the very best job we can making the title different for the new release, for the new technology that we’re launching it on.”

He explained that their strategy consists of improving the technology, upgrading the visuals, and making performance enhancements when remastering old titles for the PS5 & XBox Series X, which is why they’ve been successful so far.

What will be in GTA V Remastered?

When coming to the topic of GTA V’s remastered version, Zelnick stated that he was confident that PS5 & XBox Series X users would get everything they’re hoping for, citing the success of the Mafia series.

“It was a standard-bearer when it was launched, it continued to be the standard-bearer in the second generation, we’ll see how Grand Theft Auto does in the next generation.”

He reassured GTA fans that when Rockstar brings the game to the PS5 & XBox Series X, it won’t be a “simple port.” It seems that the team is going to dedicate themselves to making the remaster feel like a completely different experience from the original game.

When asked about Take-Two’s perspective on further remasters, Zelnick said that any update on their release schedule will come directly from Rockstar Games.

This is an exciting time to be a fan of this open-world gaming franchise, as there has also been speculation about a trailer for GTA 6 being just around the corner.

Regarding the GTA 5 remaster, we’ll keep checking for updates and will let you know as soon as we get more information about it.
