How many people play GTA Online? August 2024 player count
Rockstar GamesThanks to heists and a shiny roster of vehicles you can use to drift around in Los Santos, GTA Online continues to be the go-to game for many players until Grand Theft Auto 6 comes out.
Following the announcement of GTA 6’s 2025 release, the hype around GTA Online has put it back on the Steam charts, making it one of the most sought-after games.
So, here’s its player count in August 2024.
GTA Online Steam player count this month
GTA Online averaged a total of 118,787 players per day throughout the last thirty days as of August 12, 2024, according to Steam Charts. The game reached a peak of 185,504 players during this period.
At the time of writing, the game held 164,822 concurrent players online. August has seen a substantial increase to the 92,747 and 102,804 average daily players that were recorded on Steam Charts throughout May and June respectively.
However, keep in mind that Steam only makes up a fraction of GTA Online’s player base. The game is also available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, and the Epic Games Store. So, the total numbers, considering all platforms, would be even higher.
Peak player count
GTA Online hit an all-time peak player count of 360,761 in April 2015 — when it first arrived on PC. The next highest peak player count was 267,360 in February 2020.
The game’s popularity skyrocketed after it arrived on PC and again in 2020 due to the GTA RP Twitch meta. It’s safe to say that GTA Online isn’t ‘dead,’ with the game having a healthy player base across Steam and Epic Games, and the next-gen edition likely brought in hundreds of thousands more.
GTA Online has weekly updates introducing new Prize Ride rewards and other freebies that players can win while completing challenges.
