GTA Remasters hinted as GTA V passes 140 million copies sold
After announcing GTA V has sold over 140 million copies, the buzz about potential GTA Remasters has increased after Take-Two did not dismiss the idea of remastering previous GTA games, plus they updated GTA 5’s lifetime sales.
Rockstar continues to generate excitement with so many potential plans floating in the air. The persistent rumor of GTA 6’s existence continues to linger in the air and keep people guessing. Also, the recent Rockstar employee leak has also hinted at further Rockstar listings, in particular, a Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy.
Whilst the world continues to second-guess these exciting projects, Rockstar’s magnum opus continues to dominate the entertainment landscape. GTA V’s lifetime sales are continuing to rise, and the billions of dollars the game has already reaped continues to reach unfathomable heights.
GTA Remastered Trilogy not just a rumor?
It’s no secret that Rockstar’s game releases have slowed down substantially in the last 10 years, mainly due to the rip-roaring success of GTA 5. However, recent evidence suggests that they are hard at work on multiple projects at once with GTA 6, a GTA Remaster Trilogy, GTA Online, and possibly a Red Dead Redemption Remaster too.
Take-Two Interactive’s recent earnings call discussed the success of GTA V and also referenced the possibility of remasters. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said, “It’s a great and encouraging question, I’m kind of inclined to leave it more as a statement than a question and any update on our release schedule will come from Rockstar Games.”
We feel a definitive no, or saying that it was not in their plans, would have ruled out any potential rumors, whereas this response is almost certainly going to stoke the fire a bit more.
On the other hand, Grand Theft Auto V is a relentless money-printing machine. Even though the game came out in 2013, it’s just had one of its best-ever years for sales.
“In fact, in calendar 2020, more copies of Grand Theft Auto V were sold than in any other year except for 2013 when it first launched on PS3 and Xbox 360.”
This is an incredible statistic when you think about it, and the game is scheduled for a PS5 & Xbox Series X re-release.
Regarding the remasters, and any other Rockstar project, we’ll keep an eye out and as soon as we hear the first official word on a game, we’ll let you know.
