GTA Online has been one of the most popular MMOs for the past eight years. While players patiently await GTA 6, Rockstar Games has continued to update GTA V’s online counterpart.
While it has maintained popularity for nearly a decade, it still has bugs that persist. One of the bugs that have plagued GTA Online since the start has been the “error joining session” bug.
Sadly, there isn’t one fix that has worked for everyone. Instead, here is a list of different things you can try to resolve the issue. It’s unknown what causes this bug, but hopefully, the developers will find a more permanent fix.
How to fix GTA Online Error Joining a Session bug
Again, there isn’t a one size fits all fix for the GTA Online error joining a session bug. Instead, this list is a number of different fixes you can try.
One of these should resolve the issue unless GTA Online’s servers are currently offline.
- Check Rockstar Server Status
- If the servers are down, you will have to wait until they are brought back online
- Restart GTA V
- Restart your PC or Console
- Make sure your console is up to date
- Update GTA V/Online
- Check your internet connection
- Restart your router
- Try playing Single Player/Story before switching to Multiplayer
- Choose Online Play before loading in
- Disable Antivirus or Firewall on PC
And if none of these fixes resolve the issue, you might just have to wait. Some players reported that doing nothing and coming back to the game later made the error joining a session bug go away.
