How to free-roam Cayo Perico in GTA Online
There is a trick that you can use in Grand Theft Auto Online to free-roam around Cayo Perico with your friends. It involves owning a Motorcycle club or becoming CEO of a business.
The Cayo Perico Heist went live in GTA Online on December 14, and it has brought a plethora of new content to the game such as weapons, missions, vehicles, and even a cool nightclub. This is GTA V’s first map expansion so you may want to explore the new island.
The bad news is you don’t have much freedom in what you can do in this new location so you’re out of luck if you intend to purchase a home there, and gun down NPCs. You’ll mostly be battling armed guards during your time there.
Despite this, a few players have discovered a neat trick that lets you and your friends free roam around the island without coming under fire from the patrolling grunts.
How to free roam in Cayo Perico
This trick was discovered by Reddit user MrBossFTL3822, and it involves you becoming either the owner of a Motorcycle Club or the CEO of a business. You do it fairly quickly, and then enjoy exploring the island with your buddies.
Here’s how you can free roam Cayo Perico in GTA Online:
- Complete the Cayo Perico ‘Scope Out’ mission
- Start it again, and go to Los Santos airport
- Approach the yellow mission marker and then request a CEO or MC job
- Enter the marker and request a job as the cutscene starts
- Request a contact job after spawning at Cayo Perico
- Quit it and make your way to the beach party to enter free roam
That’s all you have to do to enter free roam. This will trick the game into thinking that you’re just partying at the beach, and you can enjoy exploring the island with your friends without the guards attacking.
Unfortunately, you can’t attack the guards while you’re in free roam as they will enter a God mode. There’s no point to emptying your clips into them as it will not deal any damage, and you’re better off just enjoying your exploration of the island.
There a ton of fun activities that you can enjoy with your friends when free-roaming Cayo Perico, such as finding easter eggs. So far there’s no way to use this trick to exploit the heist itself, so Rockstar probably won’t get rid of it any time soon.
The Cayo Perico Heist is the biggest GTA Online event that we’ve seen so far. There’s still a ton of new content to be discovered in it, and we’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
