New Take-Two company plans could hint at GTA Trilogy remasters
With the recent news that Take-Two plans to release nine new iterations of previously released titles, fans have speculated that Rockstar Games have a GTA Trilogy Remaster on the way.
Grand Theft Auto V is confirmed to be receiving a next-gen upgrade for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 11, and fans await any news on GTA 6 with bated breath. However, the community’s interest has also been piqued by rumors circulating about remasters of GTA 3, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas.
These were the first GTA games to ditch the top-down view of the first two games and created the formula that we all now expect from a GTA game. After Take-Two boss, Strauss Zelnick wouldn’t deny that a Remastered Trilogy in development, many believe it’s on the way, and new Take-Two company plans have only further fuelled these rumors.
On May 18, Take-Two disclosed their best-selling franchises, with GTA coming out well on top, selling over 345 million units, 145 of which are GTA V. They also revealed that they plan on releasing 62 titles in the next three years, nine of which are “new iterations of previously released titles.”

This caused notable leaker Tez2 to speculate about a GTA 3 remaster, saying that “Things are getting interesting.” They referred to the “fun surprises” that Rockstar has in store for the 20th anniversary of GTA 3.
A fan asked Tez2, “Do you think it’ll be GTA 3 remastered?” and they replied saying, “Maybe the whole trilogy too.”
This is, of course, only speculation, but currently, all signs are pointing towards a GTA Trilogy Remastered in the works. In 2020, Take-Two also released a 4K upgrade for the first two Mafia games, with Mafia: Definitive Edition, so it’s well within the realms of possibility.
Take-Two could also be developing remasters for their other massive franchises, such as the expected Red Dead Redemption remaster, the Max Payne franchise, or perhaps another remaster of the critically-acclaimed Bioshock trilogy.
Strauss Zelnick confirmed that Rockstar Games would handle any updates regarding their release schedule regarding remasters.
