RDM, VDM, and OCC in GTA Online RP servers are some of the most common terms you’ll come across, and here’s what they mean in GTA RP servers.

GTA 5 Online and RP servers have been around for more than a decade and terms like RDM, VDM, and OCC are as prevalent as they get. Knowing their meaning is important for being a part of almost any server and you’ll also be able to communicate with others easily.

If you’re new to GTA RP though, here’s the meaning of the terms RDM, VDM, and OCC.

RDM meaning in GTA RP

RDM in GTA RP means Random Deathmatch which is when a player in the server starts shooting and killing others without role-playing.

In most GTA RP servers, killing others without reason is prohibited because it ruins their experience, and doing so can lead to you getting kicked or banned from the server altogether. In other cases, you might have to face in-game punishments like jails, demotions, and fines.

Examples of RDM in GTA RP

Here are some examples of RDM in GTA RP to help you understand the term better:

  • When a player kills someone without prior warning for context. Just like real life, this is not acceptable at all and ruins the immersive nature of the game.
  • If you catch a crime suspect and kill them without interacting through RP.
  • If a war has ended and you continue to engage in violent/fatal acts.

Having said that, not all acts of killing someone in a GTA RP server are called RDM. If you’re inside a Gang Territory or a Red Zone, shooting someone or getting shot is not unexpected. Similarly, if you find yourself in a gang war, shooting in self-defense won’t be a RDM violation.

Lastly, if you’ve given a victim enough chances to talk it out through role-play and they either don’t respond or provoke you, shooting them won’t usually be RDM.

VDM meaning in GTA RP

VDM In GTA RP means Vehicle Deathmatch which is when a player uses their vehicle to kill someone else on the server without any reason or role-playing. Crashing a vehicle accidentally is a fair possibility though, so instead of hitting and running, it is recommended to call an ambulance and you might not face harsh consequences like a server ban.

Examples of VDM in GTA RP

Here are some examples of VDM in GTA RP to help you understand the term better:

  • If you are run over by someone randomly or vice versa.
  • If you use vehicles to damage someone else’s vehicle to the point that it explodes and kills the person inside. It is considered VDM if someone does the same to you.
  • Killing someone outside a car through a vehicle explosion is also VDM.

What to do after an RDM or VDM?

First of all, if your server doesn’t allow killing, do not engage in either RDM or VDM as it can get you kicked or banned from the server and ruin someone else’s experience.

However, if such a situation arises accidentally or you’ve been RDMed/VDMed, there are a few ways to go about it:

  • Instead of panicking and causing more chaos in retaliation, tell a server moderator or admin.
  • Try to get the New Life Rule implemented that lets you wipe your memory related to the fatal incident and continue the role-playing experience as usual.
  • If you’ve accidentally killed someone, don’t try to avoid confrontation by fleeing from the scene. Instead, call an ambulance and try to make things right with the players affected.

What is OCC in GTA RP?

OCC in GTA RP means Out of Character which is when you do something unusual according to the character you’re playing on the server. For instance, mentioning your personal life or making personal remarks towards other players on the server can be seen as an OCC act.

Similarly, breaking server laws, trying to progress through unfair means, and changing your character’s personality without context can be considered OCC.

Although the rules around VDM and RDM are still flexible in most servers, OCC is simply not allowed as staying in character is the most basic yet important part of GTA RP. Even if you end up getting RDMed or VDMed, you’re expected to stay in character.
