Warzone Payload guide: tips & tricks on how to win
Warzone’s Season 4 Reloaded update brought a ton of new content, and now the unique Payload game mode has arrived. Here’s everything you need to know about Warzone’s Payload, including some top tips on how to win.
There’s always a ton of excitement when a new update drops, and Season 4 Reloaded is no exception. It added a ton of weapon buffs and nerfs, a new Sentry Gun killstreak, and the new OTs 9 SMG, among other additions.
Now, a week after the Reloaded update, the new Payload game mode has arrived. It has a lot in common with the traditional multiplayer mode, with one team having to escort an objective across the map while the other tries to stop them. Overwatch fans will be especially familiar with Payload, as it’s almost exactly the same as Overwatch’s original mode.
Here’s everything you need to know about this objective-based mode, and some top tips on how to win.
How to play Payload in Warzone
Following a Warzone playlist update on July 22, Payload arrived in Warzone. You can access it from the main lobby screen, where it has replaced the standard battle royale mode’s position on the list. No to worry though, you can still find normal BR at the bottom of the page.
Each Warzone Payload match will consist of 40 players that are equally divided into two teams. One side will start near vehicle objectives that must be escorted through Verdansk, while the other will be tasked with stopping the attackers.
The defenders will start elsewhere on the map and will need to stop the objective from passing through all the checkpoints before the timer finishes counting down. So, both sides will need to act fast in Warzone Payload.
If you’re on the defending team, you’ll have the ability to construct unique obstacles to stop the vehicles from progressing. Use it to bring them to a halt and take out as many attackers as you can.
Tips and tricks for winning Payload
It goes without saying that you should play the objective. Payload is a great place to engage in constant action and level up weapons, so it can be easy to get distracted. But by playing the objective, either getting inside the vehicle’s escort perimeter or keeping enemies out of it, you’ll be a major help in bringing your team to victory.
This game mode allows you to stockpile your money so that you can purchase different Killstreaks. Save up before bringing down Airstrikes and the previously secret Bomb Drone Killstreak to clear all enemies in your way. This will buy you more time to plan out a new tactic.
The good news is that whenever you’re killed, you’ll respawn with your full loadout. So, don’t hesitate in trying out different weapons that suit a variety of combat situations. For example, you can swap to an SMG or Shotgun for close-range encounters when playing Warzone Payload.
If you’re on the attacking team, then you also need to watch out for any obstacles on the path. These will act as a barrier between your objective and the next checkpoint so try to steer clear of them as much as you can. Defenders should make sure barricades are always being built.
