Halo Infinite devs reportedly working on new Invasion-style mode, not battle royale
Battle royale fans are desperate for Halo Infinite to receive a last-man-standing mode but it seems ever more unlikely as the game will reportedly get an Invasion-style mode instead.
The battle royale genre blew up in 2017 with Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, and its popularity hasn’t waned in the slightest. Warzone, Apex Legends, and Fortnite still top Twitch’s most-viewed list, and many were disappointed to hear Halo Infinite would launch without one.
It appears that if Halo Infinite does ever get a battle royale mode, it’s still a long way off. New reports claim Halo will receive an Invasion-style mode which isn’t a battle royale.
Windows Central Gaming reported that Certain Affinity, an independent dev team that worked on Halo Infinite, “is developing an all-new mode for Halo Infinite’s multiplayer.”
According to their report, this new mode codenamed “Tanaka” is designed to be “newcomer-friendly” and “isn’t as demanding competitively” as Big Team Battle and Arena. They also said that it’s “intended to entice users who typically aren’t interested in Halo, potentially targeting gamers on Fortnite, Call of Duty Warzone, or Apex Legends.”
Halo leaker ‘Surasia4’ weighed in on January 29, saying: “I have heard the same” and it’s “a sort of Invasion 2.0.”
Invasion is a fan-favorite game mode from Halo Reach, where players must attack and defend objectives while playing as both the UNSC and the Covenant. It hasn’t been seen since, but Surasia4 believes Certain Affinity’s new mode will be modeled after Invasion.
They revealed that this mode is like a “bigger team battle” and “You can ‘hack’ sentinels so they join your team, and defend FOBs (Forward Operating Bases).” They also clarified that it’s “not a BR.“
343 Industries have previously said “the only BR we’re interested in is Battle Rifle,” so while not impossible, it’s very unlikely that Halo Infinite will introduce a traditional battle royale.
As for a release date, Surasia4 said that “there’s been assets created for it so I’d say we’ll hear about it Q3 2022,” which is either July, August, or September 2022.
I dont know where it’s at in terms of development, but there’s been assets created for it so I’d say we’ll hear about it Q3 2022

It’s worth noting that this leaker has been called “unreliable” in the past, so we’ll need to wait and see what this reported mode could be.
