343 Industries have announced another technical preview for Halo Infinite, this time with a greater focus on arena PvP. Here’s how to register and play in the next Halo Infinite multiplayer preview beta.

Halo Infinite’s first Technical Preview provided players the opportunity to test out the game’s weapons and features ahead of its December 8 launch. This gave the developers some important feedback.

Now that they’ve made a few changes, 343 Industries have prepared another round of beta testing with improved bots, an Academy training mode, and a bigger focus on PvP.

Here’s how to sign up and play Halo Infinite’s second multiplayer preview.

Halo Infinite multiplayer preview date

343 Industries announced on September 9 that the second round of Halo Infinite beta testing is set to arrive on September 24.

Players will need to register their Halo Insider profiles before September 13 to be eligible to participate. But, with this round of testing, they expect to have everyone fully registered playing in the multiplayer preview.

Halo Community Director Brian Jarrard added more detail, revealing that “Bots will be back (with some improvements), Academy will return some updates and the addition of “training mode”, and there will be a much bigger focus on Arena PVP this time including a new map and some objective modes. [Big Team Battle] is also on the menu!”

The game will also feature a unique Battle Pass containing various cosmetics to unlock through gameplay or with real money. It will also have a unique feature that lets you access items from all the previous seasonal Battle Passes.

How to sign up to play Halo Infinite multiplayer preview

As we said earlier, you must be registered to the Halo Insider Program by September 13 to play in the multiplayer preview. The good news is that signing up is a fairly straightforward process.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Head to Halo Waypoint’s Insider Programme Hub
  2. Click ‘Sign Up’
  3. Sign into your Xbox Live Account
  4. Accept the terms and conditions
  5. Fill out the questionaire

You must be 18 years or older to participate in the tests. You’ll be asked to not disclose any information from the tests, including any images or videos.

Further, you will be asked to share personal details like your email, country, and time zone. Insider will then ask you about all the Halo games you have played, which ones are your favorite, and what kind of modes do you prefer.

The sign-up also requires you to state what platforms and controllers you own, what display settings you have, and what the audio setup is like. You can also opt into PC-specific beta tests on the Halo Insider sign-up page, and you’ll be asked to share your PC specifications and your Steam ID if you have one.

Lastly, once you are all signed up, all you need to do is wait until you are called upon for a test. Microsoft have stated that these invitations are limited since they will choose participants based on “specific goals.”

As of September 20, a few players have reported receiving invitations as part of an invitation wave for Halo Insider members. You will be told about your acceptance into the flight by either email or through a message on Halo Waypoint.

Best controller settings for Apex Legends Season 14

Movement is king in Apex Legends and this controller layout will give you a leg up on the enemy during Season 14.

Published

on

Apex Legends Season 14 is well underway, and if you’re looking to gain an advantage over your opponents or keep up with players using mouse and keyboard, then this controller layout may give you a leg up on the enemy.

Apex Legends Season 14 has brought a variety of changes and new content to the battle royale. With Ranked Leagues getting some changes, and the new Recon Legend Vantage keeping things interesting in the Legend meta, having the best possible controller layout on the game is more important than ever.

While mastering your Legend, perfecting your aim, and learning spots are all supremely important in the hunt for victories, movement is king in Apex Legends. It can be the difference between winning a gunfight or heading back to the lobby disappointed.

Whether you’re using a controller or keyboard, making sure you have the right button layout is extremely important if you hope to become a movement master.

For those using customized controllers like Scuf, button layout may not be as much of an issue, as these controllers have much more freedom than the regular stock controllers.

Apex Legends best controller settings

Layout

  • Button Layout: Evolved
  • Stick Layout: Default
  • Interact/ReloadButton: Tap to Use and Reload
  • Crouch Button: Toggle
  • Aim Button: Hold
  • Survival Slot Button: On
  • Trigger Button Deadzones: None
  • Menu Cursor Speed: Around halfway or more

For those using standard controllers to play, the best layout to master movement is the Evolved setting. This layout changes your crouch to the right stick and your jump to the left bumper.

Having your crouch on the right stick will allow you to crouch spam, a very important move when it comes to winning fights in Apex Legends. Although this will take some getting used to, as keeping your aim on point while crouch spamming is fairly difficult, once you are comfortable with it you will see an instant improvement in your mobility.

Evolved will also change your jump button to the left bumper, which again will take some getting used to, however, the freedom to jump, climb, and stay mobile while keeping your thumb on the right stick is vital to improving your game in Apex Legends.

Movement / Aiming

  • Look Sensitivity: 5
  • Look Sensitivity (ADS): 4
  • Per Optic Settings: On
  • Response Curve: Classic
  • Look Deadzone: None / Small
  • Movement Deadzone: Small
  • Inverted Look: Off
  • Vibration: On
  • Advanced Look Controls: Off

As for the Movement / Aiming section in the settings, we’ve found that the Classic Response Curve is the best all-around and feels most comfortable in-game. It’s also important to have your Look Deadzone at a minimum so either None or Small depending on your stick drift.

We’ve opted for Vibration On, but a lot of players may find it easier to have it Off if they feel it is affecting their ability to control recoil. Advanced Look Controls gives the player much more advanced customization options that a player will need to spend a lot of time with in order to perfect, which can be beneficial. However, we find the default options enough to get the most out of your aim and movement.

Of course, these settings are a great template for players, but you will most likely want to play around with the Look Sensitivity and ADS Sensitivity until you find what works for you.

Gameplay

  • Button Hints: On
  • Crosshair Damage Feedback: Off
  • Weapon Auto-Cycle on Empty: On
  • Auto-Sprint: Off
  • Double-Tap Sprint: Off
  • Jetpack Control: Hold

There are a lot of Gameplay settings in Apex Legends, but these are the most relevant for optimizing performance on Controller. First off, we think it’s beneficial for Button Hints to be On, as new players may want to be reminded of how to perform certain actions.

Having said that, more experienced players may want to switch this setting and Crosshair Damage Feedback Off to reduce HUD clutter. For Weapon Auto-Cycle on Empty, we feel having this setting On means players don’t have to worry about swapping weapons manually when they run out of ammo mid-fight. This will automatically switch your weapon so you can focus on getting the kill.

Some players like Auto Sprint, especially if their analog sticks are stiff. However, we feel this setting is better switched Off, as it is much easier to walk slowly and make more discreet plays.

For those Valkyrie mains, having your Jetpack Control on Hold makes it much easier to make quick escapes and movements with your Jetpack than Toggle.

Does FOV affect controller aim?

Field of View or FOV can definitely affect a player’s aim on controller. It’s beneficial to have this setting higher than the default value of 70, as it can increase the amount you see around you. However having it too high can affect a player’s aim negatively, as it reduces the size of objects and enemies that are far away.

With that being said, there’s definitely a sweet spot for controller players, but ultimately this setting is a preference and players will need to figure out what works best for them.

Published

on

Season 14 of Apex Legends has tons of characters to choose from to enjoy its several maps. But who has the top Season 14 pick rates in Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale shooter?

Apex Legends hit the ground running when it launched with eight different characters to choose from in its battle royale offering. The game suffered a notable lull when Call of Duty: Warzone launched, but with many popular streamers such as NICKMERCS and Dr Disrespect continuing to support the game, Apex has grown expeditiously.

There are now a whopping 22 different Legends to choose from, giving players a headache before each game. With Season 14 now here, the new Legend Vantage has already knocked some fan-favorite characters out of the running.

Let’s see how the current roster’s pick rates are looking to give us an idea of the most popular Legends in Apex Legends Season 14.

Apex Legends Season 14 pick rate ranked list

This is our complete list of every character pick in Apex Legends, and we’ve ranked them in order to let you know which are favored.

Here is every Apex Legends pick rate in Season 14 ranked, as of August 19, 2022, according to Apex Legends Status:

Most picked Legends in Apex Legends Season 14

5. Bloodhound – 7.8%

Again, with the influx of new Apex Legends players, Bloodhound is a great character to use for new players in Season 14.

Bloodhound nearly always stays in and around the 8-11% mark the seasons go on, and they have dropped slightly to 7.8%. Don’t let that put you off though, as they are easily the top Recon class to use in Apex Legends thanks to their tracking tools and incredible skills, plus, their Beast of the Hunt Ultimate is priceless.

4. Pathfinder – 7.9%

Pathfinder has consistently been one of Apex Legends’ top five picks at 7.9%, and counting, for quite some time now.

As a Recon class, Pathfinder simply excels in movements and traversing the game’s various maps. His Grappling Hook and Zipline Gun are simply invaluable assets that will help any team in a pinch – either because of the circle or a third-party situation. He consistently manages to stay in the top 5 as a result.

3. Wraith – 8.9%

Another starting Legend, Wraith has been a consistent pick throughout Apex Legends’ lifetime, and she has taken the number three with an 8.9% pick rate in Season 14.

Wraith’s stand-out features are her ability to get out of trouble very quickly – teammates included. Her abilities allow her to sense danger, become temporarily invulnerable, and create portals to escape predicaments. It’s easy to see why Wraith continues to be an absolute fan favorite in Apex Legends Season 14.

2. Octane – 9.8%

With a 9.8% pick rate, the speed demon has been dropped to the number two spot but continues his reign as one of the most popular Legends in Season 14, fluctuating between the top two places.

Aside from his amusing quips, he is the perfect balance of offense and defense. Despite being regarded as an offensive Legend, Octane can greatly increase his sprint speed which is useful for both attack and running away.

But most Octane users thrive on his Launch Pad Ultimate which can send him, and friendly players, high up into the air.

1. Vantage – 12% – Most picked Legend in Apex Legends Season 14

Of course, it’s the brand-new Legend Vantage that takes the top spot in Apex Legends Season 14. With a 12% pick rate, Vantage has stolen the show from other top Legends such as Octane and Valkyrie.

Vantage’s incredible popularity is probably due to her being new, but she’s not to be trifled with either. Her Sniper Rifle is an incredibly strong weapon, she’s able to wall run, and has a direct counter to Mirage.

How her pick rate will change throughout Season 14 remains to be seen, but she’s well-worth using on the overhauled Kings Canyon.

That covers all the picks in Apex Legends Season 14. As always, buffs and nerfs will come and go throughout the season, altering the game’s meta, and subsequently, Legend pick rates.

We’ll be sure to keep this updated regularly so you can stay on top of the in picks and don’t forget to check out how to get the Twitch Prime skin for the month of August.

Fortnite Lord of the Rings easter egg teases Tolkien crossover coming soon

Fortnite players have discovered a major Lord of the Rings easter egg on the map, teasing a crossover is coming soon.

Published

on

Fortnite players have discovered a familiar Lord of the Rings landmark in the Season 3 island, teasing the leaked crossover is coming soon.

It’s been a big week for The Lord of the Rings in the gaming space. Not only is Weta Workshop teaming up with Take-Two to develop a new game set in Tolkien’s Middle-earth, but Swedish company Embracer Group are acquiring the rights to everything Lord of the Rings.

Just as it’s been reported that the leaked Lord of the Rings content has been cut from MultiVersus, an easter egg discovered in-game teases that Middle-earth characters will be coming to Fortnite.

Fortnite content creator ‘Koooooomar’ discovered that the rock-child is building a replica of Helm’s Deep from the Lord of the Rings. This was the ancient fortress the people of Rohan retreated to in The Two Towers for the movie’s major battle. You can find the sculpture southeast of Condo Canyon on the shore.

There’s almost no denying this sculpture is based on Helm’s Deep, with the ramp leading up to the keep on the right-hand side and the Deeping Wall stretching across the makeshift valley. It even has a gap in the wall and scorch marks where the Uruk-Hai blew through it in the movie and trash makes up the advancing forces.

Leakers are convinced a Doomslayer skin will be coming soon thanks to it being free on the Epic Game store, but the same leak claims a Lord of the Rings crossover is also in the works.

With Amazon’s Lord of the Rings show releasing in September, this could be the perfect time to tie the bundles in with The Rings of Power. We could even see Sauron, Gandalf, or Galadriel in the Season 4 Battle Pass which goes live in late September, but that’s just hopeful speculation.
