Hogwarts Legacy has a ton of characters with unique stories and Sirona Ryan is easily one of the most popular among them. From their identity to their significance in the game, here’s everything to know about Sirona Ryan in Hogwarts Legacy.

There’s a lot to do in Hogwarts Legacy, as not only will players be attending classes at Hogwarts, exploring the Scottish Highlands, and customizing their character, but they’ll also be meeting various figures and completing missions along the way.

Hogwarts Legacy quests introduce players to the characters and Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players will also get to meet these personalities now. Whether it’s the Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black or Eleazar Fig, there are many personalities to meet and greet during the player’s journey.

That said, one character, in particular, has caught the attention of the community, and that’s Sirona Ryan, but who are they?

Hogwarts Legacy transgender character Sirona Ryan

Hogwart Legacy’s Sirona Ryan is a witch and the owner of the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade. They are the first transgender character in the Harry Potter universe. Sirona Ryan is introduced fairly early on in the game when the player first goes to Hogsmeade.

The reason the devs of Hogwarts Legacy decided to include a transgender character is that they wanted to “create a game that is representative and diverse,” as they explained in an interview with IGN.

Hogwarts Legacy received a lot of backlash as J.K. Rowling has been accused of making anti-transgender statements, so it seems the devs decided to implement Sirona Ryan to distinguish their views from the Harry Potter writer’s.

That said, it won’t stop the community from attempting to boycott the game, as J.K. Rowling will still ultimately profit despite not being involved in the development of Hogwarts Legacy.

Those who support and those who are in the LGBTQ+ community have reacted to Sirona Ryan‘s implementation in Hogwarts Legacy, and it’s not the most positive outcome.

Players were not happy that Sirona’s voice actor, Rebecca Root, wasn’t confirmed at launch as this would have provided more information regarding the character’s authenticity. Further, some were unhappy with the character’s name, Sirona Ryan, feeling as if it is very male-dominant.

That said, players have done some research and actually discovered that it is the name of a Celtic goddess, associated with healing and rebirth. Perhaps this knowledge will improve the character’s reception.
